Got the rear tire mounted up....
This image is hidden for guests.
I then did some hand polishing of the rear wheel (right) to get a "full shine"...

You can see the front wheel (left) has yet to be hand polished
Here's both wheels completed.....

looks like I am missing a valve stem cap ?

Your bike is going to look really amazing! The level of detail, the quality of the work, top drawer! Can't wait to see the final product!

So for those of you who realized I was out of town for a few days, one of my stops was in Yorba Linda to visit with MEIS and see this bike progress up close and personal. After my Google maps app parked me directly in front of his house, I entered the Wizard's Workshop (Dave's Garage!)
Pictures were not allowed, as it is a sacred temple, however, I was privileged to see all of the bits and pieces carefully arranged on the floor for examination. All I can say is . . .
There really aren't enough superlatives to describe it. The paint done by Lance on the tank is butter smooth. Crisp lines between the red and tan. Just a work of art.
The gauge assembly is even cooler in person than in the pics. DEET's work shows, and the original Yamaha Design is something I need to try and work into my Street Tracker. It looks like something out of a modern Mad Max movie.
Everything is done at the Nth level. Really, really nice work.
I hopefully gave Meis some ideas for a final build video and writeup which will be placed in a special section on the site if it comes to life.
Kudos my friend!

Hi Mako,
Thank you for the kind words.....it was great to have you come by for a visit.
Probably as good of time as any to share some pics of where I am at with the Ascot?
Last weekend I decided to lay out the main parts of the Ascot and see how they all look together.
I purposely left the frame out ....as I was looking to see how the major components all look?

I am really getting excited .....as I it won't be long till I start assembly
I can only imagine what the "wail of that twin" will sound like with those
unsilenced expansion chambers ?

This old Yamaha document gave me the idea to lay the bike out this way....
Remarkably I have many of these rare parts listed in the YDS 2 "ASCOT RACER"
conversion kit shown below ...

Saw this interesting variant on Facebook. Ctune indicated it was a farm bike issued only in Australia. Seemed the followers of this thread would enjoy seeing it.

Brings back a memory or two - first Yamaha I ever rode , the colours, high pipes and rack . Beautiful sound also, compared to all the British 4 strokes at the time. This is the first pic I have ever seen of those Yamaha bikes.
Yes,I can confirm that they were on sale in Australia as a farm bike in this configuration and colour.
Great pic.
