I posted a new thread saying hello, not sure if that was correct or to post here. I'm Mike, I just bought an early 70's dt 250 and it is rough. I hope to get it rideable and nice again, I think it has had a hard life. I know very little about these bikes and this looked like a good forum with good people. I will post pics of the bike when I take some of it. This is the first enduro bike I've owned, but I have wanted a 2 stroke enduro for quite a while. I have had mx bikes in the past and now have some street bikes and a vintage Vespa scooter. Thanks for the add.

Good evening fellow Yamaholics. I have a 1974 DT400b which I am recommissioning. It shows 3000 miles which looking at the condition appears correct. It has the original tyres and with the exception of the lower side panels is all there. I had an intermittent spark so ordered the RexSpeed stator kit. On removing the old stator, it would appear that pickup wire has been rubbing on the flywheel from new and has worn through. I am going to fit the Rex kit anyway, I just need to add the original lighting coils to the new stator and hopefully job done. It's 35 years since I had my last DT400 and I still have the scars down my arm where it spat me off.

Your bike should actually be a 1975 or 1976 model - the first years for the DT400. Take a look at the frame and motor numbers (head stock and the motor case) and compare to our VIN tables in the Tech Library for sure.
Plus pictures are good!
Welcome

Hi Everybody! My name is Scott and I'm from southern CT. I've got a pretty rough lookin' 1975 DT400 which I plan to daily ride as well as take a cross country road trip with a buddy of mine (whom is simultaneously resurrecting his fathers 1973 RT360). Look forward to posting some of my restore progress and then some trip pictures!!

Get a seat cover from Ryder68 on Ebay - the best out there (). If you are on a budget, the ones from Pit Posse are an acceptable second choice.
When you get going, post up a build thread and folks will be happy to weigh in with suggestions as you go along!
For a great read on using the old bikes on a cross country trip - read about one leg of our Vintage Trans America Trail ride on Motorcycleist Magazine - link below:

Hi all. My name is Sheila and I just picked up a 1972 Yamaha LT2. I'm only about 5 feet tall, so it's a perfect fit for me. I grew up riding dirt bikes, but have only been riding scooters or cruiser style motorcycles in recent years. I'm loving this LT2. I got a green metal flake helmet with bubble shield to go with it. Looking forward to reading about others and their bikes.

Hi, My user name is MadJack, after MadJack Churchill. As an American I found his life inspirational and a bit on the wildside. warfarehistorynetwork.com/dai...ed-of-warrior/ I tend to go about things in a crazy sort of way but usually get to where I wanna be with things. I have a CT1 reed valve CT2 which i think is kinda cool. It is most likely a 1972.
I love old cars, including straight sixes. I was one of those kids that went to auto mechanics in high school. Our shop classes lasted 4 hours each day. My first car was 53 chevy which my dad had me rebuild in our driveway after it blew from me not watching the oil in it. My first assignment in shop class was a complete brake job on all four drum wheels of a Barracuda. I learned to do complete motor rebuilds including valve grinding and piston work and replacing cranks and cams including race oriented mechanics. I was taught carbs on bench etc. I was mechanical distributors and vacuum advance etc. This was all muscle car era stuff.
The Yamaha enduro is the bike I always wanted but never had at the time. I rode a Honda S90 to school for a while. There was a dirt track guys had made close by. I participated in this with other guys and many of my friends rode in competitions including enduros and trials competitions and flat track. Anyway, hope this gives you enough intro and background into who I am. I am in the process of getting the CT2 back together and running well. I admit to being a bit unconventional and risky. Oh, yeah, I was in an accident that killed 19 of my friends in 1972.-Bob
