Greetings
My name is Alan, 60 years old, and I started riding motorcycles before I could touch the ground. My first motorcycle was my dad’s Triumph Cub. He would sit on the rear fender to get me going and slide off the back and I would ride until I fell. I started racing motocross with a Yamaha 175 CT-1B and 360 RT-1MX. I rode for Hamby’s Yamaha in Greensboro, NC. I got to ride one of the first prototype MX 250 and later the 360 RT2-MX (silver with black stripe). I finish my motocross career riding a SC500 for two seasons. Like most of my riding friends, got married, had kids, college loans, and sold the motorcycles, but the Yamaha 175 CT-1B.
Now that the kids are married, I have started restoring old Yamaha Enduros and enjoying every moment I spent re-living the most memorable moments of my life. I spent a lot of time on the internet looking for parts and motorcycles, talking with great people who share a special love for these simple machines that brought our generation so much fun.
I have really enjoyed the time I have spent on your website.

:)

..Was looking for a project and was going to restore an old XL, but could not resist the power of the dark n smoky side (2 stroke), and all metal fenders .. Found my first DT1E in a barn a few weeks ago..Paid too much for it..It has been so molested but its saving grace are matching frame/engine serial numbers .. Honestly this whole era is a bit before my time but am just so into the history of these bikes.. I want to restore mine back to original as possible over the next few months.. Been around bikes all my life and grew up with spanners under my nails and grease in my hands.. Ill post a picture of my DT...I warn you it ain`t pretty...
When in doubt, power out !

My DT1E..

"All it needs is some points", he said... The real diagnosis! Bent , pitted forks, bent triple clamps, speedo not original, speedo bracket not original, (tacho I think is). Light and Ears not original... 12 volt bosch ignition system hanging off the side defo NOT ORIGINAL...Front mudguard not original, Wiring harness non existent.. Paint Job...Oh that paint job...Seat pan original, whats left of it anyway..Carby and inlet manifold...not original...Exhaust totally molested, welded at the manifold and some ugly home made spark arrestor...

Positives...her frame and engine numbers match...135PSI compression... Wish me luck...
When in doubt, power out !

Hi, yes the clutch lifter mod, i did the same thing years ago for the same reason [the old plastic or nylon one had split] have a few Dt/Rt's some are still being used split-makes then bind etc, but my one flash of briliance was using i think either an RD400 or 350 maybe R5 as had them all at one time. Think it's a 4 start worm by memory--anyway, need some more, shouldn't be hard to find though. thought i was getting a good deal of ebay a few years ago with an RT2Mx lifter with cover for $20 by memory. Thought with a bit of luck she'll be fine. Allas the worm was split--still in use though on my RT2/3 or whatever it is [ratbike].
