Hello, Mark from Roseville, Ca. Member Randy (Tiki) told me about this site.
I presently own a Yamaha 73 sc500 (my first dirt bike) and 74 MX250, both restored. I also have a 73 CB500 and 76 CB750, and recently sold some old Hondas to make room for the Yamahas. Ill be retiring soon, side business buying and selling bikes and parts, mostly for fun, dont think ill get rich doing it.

That looks like a good solid starting point. Seriously.

Thanks mate, she runs a dream.

Just a couple of questions:

She's missing her chain guard, will a DT do? Which other models may do the trick?

Also, her clutch and front brake levers seem to have gone west over time, are near enough replacements available?

Finally her indicators are long gone, can you recommend a supplier who can provide near enough models?

Cheers and thanks.

The chain guard (there is a top one which would be silver) was the same for the DT2 and DT3 and RT2 and RT3 (308-22311-00-35) It is actually called a "chain case" and there is one on Ebay NOS right now for about $225 :EEEK In Yellow below:

There is also a lower chain guard which is part number 214-22318-01-33 and is used on a larger number of models. These are probably more available. It is the part in Green above.

Stock blinkers are a bit hard to find in usable shape, but there are some aftermarket ones out there. Try Mike's XS and Ebay.

Hey Yamaha people!

My name is Matt as you probably can tell by my user name. Haha. I recently purchased a 1974 Yamaha DT250. This is the first bike I've ever owned. So I'm pretty excited about it. As with any old bike I've already had some issues, which is why I joined the club. I need to pick the brain of some of the mechanic gurus on this page. I live out of a 1969 Ford Econoline E-300 camper conversion. I'm trying to use the DT250 has a daily driving so I don't have to drive my home everywhere. I'm excited to be apart of this group and I hope we can all learn from each other and appreciate our common appreciation for classic enduros.

Welcome! Matt!

You picked a good bike there. Do you have some pictures of it? Always good to know exactly what bike we are being asked about.

We have downloadable PDF manuals in our tech section that will probably be very helpful.

Ask away and we should have someone in the group who will be able to address most questions!
