Below is a 1971 Yamaha RT 360 Oil tank painted by DEET.
DEET's instructions below:
Great results from a spray can!
If you never read how to do the stripes, it is pretty easy.
They are 5mm wide.
Prime the tank.
Paint the stripe color.
Let it dry.
Cut your masking tape to 5mm wide.
Put the two stripes on.
Paint the oil tank body color.
Let it dry.
Remove the masking tape.
Apply clear coat.
Enjoy!

Below is a 1970 RT 360 colored oil tank painted by DEET.
DEET's instructions below:
Wet sanded with 800 grit to smooth the surface.
Cleaned off all residue.
Applied the decal.
Wipe down with naptha to remove any greasy fingerprints.
Wipe with tack cloth to remove any dust.
Sprayed final clearcoats with Duplicolor 500deg clear engine enamel.
It is beautiful!
I don't know if anyone has ever done the 1970 paint scheme to a 1973 oil tank, but it looks good on either style tank.

This is great stuff Devin!
Thank you for detailing all of this-
I used a RT3 Oil Tank on my Black Widow and did the RT1 Paint scheme with the 1970 RT1 Decal- I really like the look of this tank on the bike.

I really like the look of that sticker. I am anxious to see what type of Red you find for the grandson JT1 project's.
A goal: to have a close match for every model. It may take years. I appreciate everyone sharing the paint matches so far OnFire .

You bet- I will keep you posted on what I come up with...
Trying to find the perfect match in an over the counter spray can. Want to make sure it has just the proper amount of red with out being to orange. likey

Nice stripes guys! I love seeing the custom touches and extra love everybody puts into these great machines. Here's my oil tank I did just as a test of a black on black color scheme. I'm digging it.
