I don’t think it matters if it’s a good primer/sealer. I used etch primer in the bare steel and then feather fill (gray) then based with a chipped color close to the Portuguese until I had coverage then used the Portuguese over that so as to make sure I had coverage. The VMR (paint ordered off the internet, base coat) is pre-reduced and ready to spray and doesn’t cover well. I used almost a pint to do the fuel tank and the oil tank even after basing it with something close from a local paint store.
I’m either livin’ the dream or dreamin’ of livin’!

For those that are using the Dupli-Color silver on their fenders and such and think the paint is too bright,
have a look at the SEM 39073 gloss silver, and the 40913 semi-gloss clear over it. Has a touch more "black"
in it.

Will be having a '69 AT1 painted professionally shortly. The white is still there but faded out, black pinstriping also. I have the correct pin stripe tape for my painter already.
Should I assume the white is the same pearlescent white the '68 DT1 was, or is it something different? The paint for my '68 project was from Marbles Motors, and he still sells it.
Still need to investigate the whole 'imgur photo posting' thing so no pics.

Years ago… I repainted my 70 RT1 with a Dupont Centari.. hardner, yellow then black over top on the tank and oil injection reservoir using a very thin masking tape, for the yellow stripe, wet sanded, clear coat. Man it was tough and shine still survives today but im now in a complete restoration of this 70 RT1, so i will be doing it again, some minor dents.. etc etc.
Never tried a decal stripe.. i assume thats what you are referring to.
This paint is bloody expensive these days if you are shopping automotive.. I cant get these old products any longer.. EPA..
Curious, your painter, what they are getting for this.
Good luck and hopefully it comes back just the way you envision it.

Regarding Imgur.. it seems to be the favorite of some.. currently experimenting with google drive.
first attempt failed, requested permission from anyone who clicked the link.
Im testing a folder, posted it last night, permission was removed from this folder so im waiting for someone to confirm it works… lol.
cylinders, gauges and measuring is the topic.
Hoping for some success.
cheers
