DEET did mine on my 76 DT400, they look brand new again. I'm going to have him restore the ones on my DT2 and repair the tack for my DT400 that I screwed up over revving the motor - had a runaway throttle. I recommend all of his work, he's done the key switch on my DT2, good as new!

I purchased the painted parts to my bike this past summer. Got the vinyl graphics for the gas and oil tank as well as a NOS 250 emblem and aftermarket Torque Induction emblem for the oil tank. Took everything to a local PDR guy to pull some dents and dings and now have them to a body shop to be painted the original '72 Pearl Yellow Gold. I'm keeping the original pieces for the patina.

From Dave at KDI Reproductions I bought the Gas Cap. It really appears to be a top quality piece. For just under $60 US it comes complete with all the parts; gaskets, springs, pin, clip, et al. Weight is just slightly more than an original Cap.

For $60 US the reproduction makes my OEM one about worthless!

I also bought one of those gas caps from KDI, how long did it take to get yours?

Thanks, I'm on the east coast as well and it's been 10 days for me as of now.  I did contact him today, he gave me the tracking number and of course USPS shows it as still in LA.  Oh well at least the one I have now is still working so no big deal, just thought maybe he forgot since it was a phone order and not internet.  Thanks again...

Hey BRZN,

Did you notice any improvement in how your bike ran after the heat gun burn out of your exhaust pipe? Do you think it helped?

I couldn't notice any improvement in performance, however it seemed a wee bit louder to me.

The downside of getting pipe red hot is it generally burns up the thin sheet of fiberglass mat under the perforated steel that lines many of the stock pipes.

I didn't let the pipe get any hotter than 460F trying not to destroy it's insides. The 460F was close to the outlet where I had the heat gun inserted. As soon as the pipe stopped smoking I shut the heat gun off and used compressed air for a bit.

First off a big shout out and thank you to a few that have helped me through a few things over the past several weeks;

Thanks Guys!

Over the past several weeks I've addressed several items that needed a bit of attention. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and not scared to jump into mechanical work, just need some guidance every now and then.

The carb - issue a bit of what's best described as a miss between 3500 and 4500 RPM's. I'd cleaned and rebuilt the carb last year, but it needed more. I was able to get the Main Nozzle out and clean it, then re-installed the original Mikuni Needle Jet, cleaned the Main Jet's Banjo Bolt and re-installed the original Mikuni #160 Main Jet.

The Cylinder Jug Base Gasket - issue slight leak from the left front corner. Afraid if oil's leaking out air could leak in. Last year I'd replaced an obviously leaking Head Gasket, and with the head off I turned the crank over slightly separating the Cylinder from the Case. Oil came out from between the two when I did that.

After two failed attempts of purchasing the base gasket

I got the right one

Here's what the piston looked like when I pulled the cylinder

I removed the piston and the rings (there's an expander ring behind both the top Dykes L ring and the bottom one) and cleaned off all the carbon carefully with 400 grit sandpaper. I believe the piston looked as bad as it did due to blow by from the bottom ring being stuck in the groove with carbon. I was able to get the bottom ring out and get it's groove cleaned out. I also cleaned the carbon out of the head.
Not too bad for 3,400 miles
