Do you have a source for the vinyl cover? Not heard of that before!

Hey y'all!

Stumbled across the site. Marty Howell (will be 58 years in a couple of weeks) from Houston and main interest is the IT enduro bikes. Current Yamaha's in the stable include a 1974 DT125, 1983 IT250 and a 1985 IT200 I just acquired last weekend. Looking forward to the IT200... bought one new back in 1985 and have good memories racing hare scrambles and enduro events. Mostly ride KTMs off road, moto once in awhile and some street on a 1973 Honda CL350 survivor. Plan to replace the IT250 with the IT200 as my go to AHRMA race bike. Thanks for the site!

Good question and if I ever figure it out, I'll get back to ya! I THINK I'm a 25-ish famous off-road racer, at least somehow in my warped mind I kinda am. But, sadly, I am just an old fossil. Legal name is Steve Chancey, from around Chattanooga, Tn., and I actually raced enduros and hare scrambles pretty regularly from 1972 until about 2010. I know that's no record, but I feel like it should be! I am 68 now (again, not in my mind. remember there I'm 25). I started on an Ossa, then moved on to Penton, Husky, Suzuki, Yamaha and finally rode KTMs the last 17 years or so of my "career". My son, Jason, was a support rider for KTM and won the SETRA enduro championship 5 times and was the rider I always wished I could be. I even started one of my last enduros on the row with my son and grandson. How cool is that? I have moved on to street riding now but miss the woods riding every day! I keep a garage full ( 16 right now) of bikes ranging from Kawasaki 1400 Concours down to a Yamaha HT1 (90cc enduro). I recently restored a CT1 (with CT2 red bodywork) and I am just now finishing a complete resto of a '86 IT200, which I intended to do some racing on but will probably sell.? I like most anything with two wheels and a motor but have my favorites (Ossa, Moto Guzzi, Yamaha, Triumph). The Yamaha endures hold a special place in my heart. Well, probably enough said, but always nice to belong to a community of like-minded souls. Thanks for a place to share this passion. Oh, one last item: Nickname is Fossil or Foss. That stuck when a younger riding buddy started calling me "the Docile Fossil" years back. Best to all here. Foss

I'll bet you have some great old photo's from the early enduro days. Please post them. There's a "Throw Back Thursdays" Thread on here just for that sort of thing. I still have my IT200S I bought new in '86 (the last year I rode the Jack Pine), my son rides it now. It seems you and I are opposites in that I won the Dist.14 A class several times, but my son just can't pull it all together (but he loves to ride).

Nice to see a forum on these great motorcycles. I own a 1978 IT 175E that I purchased new. I rode it until 1988 and it became a garage queen with 1913 km. Moves, kids and "the job" seemed to occupy too much of my time. I got back on my street bike in 2005 but the garage queen just occupied that space. Last year, I test rode a Suzuki DRZ 400 and when I got back on my street bike to leave the dealership I wondered what was wrong with my bike. How about 175 lbs in curb weight. Not me but the bike! That was my incentive to get the Yamaha running. I changed the oil, installed a new plug, cleaned the carb and with fresh gas it started. I had to re-clean the carb a number of times before I got it right but eventually it was running across the full power band. I also installed a new UNI air filter (the original turned to dust) and pried the clutch plates apart with a knife. They had always stuck together after winter storage and I did purchase new plates but so far the clutch works fine. I have also installed new wheel bearings on the front and will do the rear wheel in the next few days. I have had the bike out three times to our local off road area and it brings back such great memories of what a light weight motorcycle is capable of doing.

Hi! I'm Arlyn, a 62 year old grandpa, and I just pulled my old 1974 Yamaha DT360 out from the shed after a 20 year rest. I found this forum while digging for parts and have already found some great information. I attached a few pics...

I also have a 2015 Husqvarna FE350 for the more serious stuff. What a difference 42 years makes!

Welcome Arlyn, I am 60 and there are more than a few our age on the site. I just sold my Husqvarna SM610 and yes they are very good, but having ridden a perfectly set up 360 owned by one of the members on this site (Meis) I can tell you that these guys have the talent to make the old ones perform very well too.

Welcome and we look forward hearing more from you.

Hi,

I'm Dave, I'm coming back to motorcycles in general and dirt bikes in particular after a 35 year lay-off where I've mostly been playing with cars. Back in February of 1977 I bought a brand new RM125B with money from my paper route (the Washington Post in an apartment building; 300-370 papers/day). I raced & played on that bike for 4 years, then got too busy with school & life to do more than ocasionally look at it longingly. I still have the RM and am currently working to revive it, but I've always had a soft spot for Yamaha DTs (first bike I ever rode was a '72 or so DT100), and thought the '77 & up monoshock bikes wrere really cool. Recently I completed the MSF BRC and will be adding the M to my license shortly, so when I ran across a '77 DT400 for sale I bit. So I'm on here to learn the tricks & traps of the DTs.

Dave

Welcome! To the site! We should have a manual in the tech section for that bike.
