Got the stator all finished up as I had a couple of misdirected wires and bad exposed wire.

Replaced and Re-soldered a couple of connections to clean things up and now it is ready to go back on the engine- the Flywheel is spotless!

New Gaskets are ready to go and will be putting those in place tomorrow as I install the Cylinder and Head.

With the top end complete- I will block off the Exhaust- Oil port in cylinder and will hook up my Leak down tester to make sure everything is Airtight!

I will do this first before I reinstall the stator so I can make sure those main seals are not leaking.

Once that checks out it will be time to install the Stator and flywheel- Pull the head and rig up my dial indicator and set the timing.

This engine has some major compression!! I may not need that High Compression head... will test everything out before I go down that path.

So... Today will get the timing all set and it will be time to drop into the bike.

Final step is to finish polishing out the side cases and to get them installed.

That looks to be a real sweet motor - I can also guess it will be a leg snapper if not approached with caution!

Sweet!

Took a lot time this week-end to finish up the engine because I want to make sure everything is perfect as it will be seeing some extreme riding in the months to come.

I must tell you all... with the years I have been riding and working on these bikes, I have never really timed a bike per say... Seems strange I know but guess all the bikes I have ever owned have been in pretty good shape.

So- been reading a lot and talking thru the process with a couple forum members and today I put all my knowledge into action.

It is a great feeling when you know things are right!

Since my leak down test went very well yesterday it was time this morning to get the Stator and Flywheel back on.

Rigged up my Dial Indicator and was time to go to work.

Found TDC- Zeroed out the dial

Ran the Flywheel counter clock wise a few rotations to double check it and it was right on the mark each time. Check!

Next- From Zero- TDC, Rotated the Flywheel clockwise one full dial= 0.10 and then to .014 giving me 0.114 or 2.9mm.

The Tab and the Flywheel mark were almost dead on but did need to bend the tab a little so it lined up perfect. Ran it thru a couple more times to double check the position and again it was dead on! Check!

Now with the Flywheel and tab matched up perfect- Time to set the points.

I experimented with three tools to see how they matched up...

Ohm meter- Light tester and my eye!

First was a light tester that I rigged up-

One end to the battery- and the other end plugged into the black wire coming out of the Stator wire harness. (Battery was grounded to the engine).

I used an LED bulb to better see the slight diming if everything worked like it should. Took a little bit to get my eye use to seeing it dim just as the points started to open.. but must say it was tough to see even with the garage dark but it did work pretty good.

With the marks lined up and adjusted the points to where the bulb just started to dim- I tightened the points down.

Then took my Ohm meter just to see how that worked and it was a tad off so readjusted.

My final 3rd check was to get plenty of daylight on the engine and grab my stronger glasses and actually watch the points open and close-

Found that I was able to even dial it in closer by watching and lining up the marks to adjust the points right when they truly started to open up.

So for me, I like the visual and being able to get it dead on.

So with all of that, hope I have it right and will soon find out when it is time to start her up!

So with the Engine now pretty set- Will start working on the side cases this week to get them cleaned up and polished out a tad.

Once that is done- Install them and drop the Engine into the frame!

So had a little time left today to finish up the small detail that I think will give the bike another little pop of Red!

Going to use the "360" emblem off of an RT3 Oil tank that I have as I really like the design and the look it will give to the heat shield/ Exhaust pipe.

Once I pulled out the stock 360 emblem... It was immediately screaming for a little color in the oval part of the shield... And of course Red was the first choice!

This is almost a perfect match to the tank stripes...

Applied the first coat real light to get the adhesion and then hit it my ScotchBrite pad- Nice even finish/second coat and then went in the Oven at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 hours- Turned out great!

So- will let the paint fully cure for a couple of days and then take a little heat resistant clear Adhesive Silicone to affix the emblem.

Had to sample it up to see how it is going to look- Like It!!

Greg - I was looking back at your motor, and it dawned on me what was different.

I really like the way you sanded the edges of just one section of the engine fins! I have not seen that particular effect before and it looks really sharp. I have always done all the fin edges on my DT400's, but they also have the heads black. The extra detail is neat.

I also like the little spots of red here and there to tie the theme together. Not too much, but enough to know it was thought out. Very nice.
