Greg - I really like the black headlight rim! Is that paint, powder coat or black chrome? Whatever it is it looks perfect on the bike. As does that black sprocket (won't show the grease either!)

The project is coming together probably even better than I had been imagining it. Can't wait to see it finished!

I just sanded the ring down to just roughen up the surface and then sprayed it with some Krylon BBQ paint- Threw in the oven for a few hours to bake it on. We will see if it holds up but so far appears to be as solid as a rock.

The key to getting the right look (satin) is the paint choice for sure

Thanks Devin- I do feel like I am in the homestretch now on this project and really just need a few more solid days to get her ready for the first start up.

Hoping by August 1st- I will be ready to get the top end broke in by getting some time and miles on the bike to have her fully dialed in a couple weeks before Efest.

I hate those folding tab locks too so I used some split locks and scared myself half silly when I found the bolts backing out! The clue was one of the bolts was starting to hit the swingarm.

Didn't use any loctite tho and I don't know why the bolts decided to get loose. I'm sure I tightened them because I remember seeing the splits all compressed. Thought maybe it had something to do with the cushion hub .... but after seeing those bolts come out I wasn't taking any chances. Put the stock Yamaha's back on.

YMMV, and I hope it does! But I'd keep an eye out.

I had the same problem with sprocket bolts on a newer model... the thing was the lock tabs were completely worn out and I thought new ones were a bit pricey and had to be ordered... I didn't use lock washers, just blue loctite and torqued them with a torque wrench. All of the bolts were somewhat loose and two of the the bolts were not much more than finger tight when I checked torque again after a couple of short rides. I bought new lock plates and no problems since. Must be the vibration or shock or something (this was not a cush hub).

Keep an eye on them like Bill said...

Thanks for the feedback on this gents....

Re-thinking this now- Guess I will be ordering some new locking tabs and installing. This is the last thing in the world that I want to be worrying about!

Time to Rock and Roll now!

Got the rest of my Painted parts delivered last night and they look great!

I decided to go with the RT3 Oil Tank instead of the 71 RT1 style as again it just fits the theme of this bike as does give it that nice squared line on the side.

But.... Had to go with the 71 RT1 Paint scheme to pull it all together with the 71 RT1 Gas Tank that will be on this bike.. and of coarse the 70 RT1 oil tank sticker will look killer!

That bike is going to rival anything I've seen of yours to date, which says a lot!

The bar just keeps moving up around here.

Inch by Inch.... Progress is being made on the "Black Widow"

Lot's of tedious details have been addressed/resolved. When you mix parts from different years you better be ready to use your skill sets to make everything fit perfectly and look right!

All in all- really satisfied with the way she is looking. The stance of this bike is impressive and looks like it means business... Which was the goal from day one.

So... Just about finished up with everything but the Engine and Carb and will turn my attention to that this week.

Once the Leak Down Test is completed and the Timing is set.. Will be dropping the Engine into the frame and then it will not be long for the first big start up!

Few shots today- Enjoy!!!!
