Congratulations!

Sounds okay to me too. At least I don't hear what I would call "knocking" in the video.

The smoke is also normal especially after sitting a long time... the best way to "fix" that is to actually ride it!

And you have premix and the pump? That will make it smoke a little more too.

Wasn’t there a guy on here whose moniker phrase was, “ if it’s smokin’, it ain’t broken”? Words of wisdom for a 2 stroke..
Nice bike!

I don't want to hijack the thread with mine, but talk of it motivated to pull the carb and make sure that carb cleaner is going through every orifice possible. Still doesn't start with the choke on. Only bike I've had that doesn't start, or run with the choke on, regardless of temperature. Who knows what a previous owner may have done, the timing was way off when I got it too.

Congratulations on getting it running, it sounds great to me, normal 125/175 piston slap, nothing unusual. Depending on how long you let it sit, smoke at start up will be the norm unless you're riding it at least once a week. Great looking machine, love that tank!

Motor sounds strong for compression. Timing sounds ok. Does the electric start work. I guess that's been well covered so just tell me to go look back, all good.
Exhaust sounds a little like baffle plates etc might be loose in the exhaust, sounds like might be loud on throttle. Then again camera audio can sound worse than in reality sometimes.

Darinm, I thought you were in Orange County. I must be confusing with you with someone else. Who was it that posted pictures from their ride up around Saddleback Mountain? That's frustrating that your choke isn't working. I'm not familiar with that particular version. The earlier one I have (with a lever) operates by adding gas to the mix, instead of choking air. Yours, I believe, has a knob that operates an air shutter, and I think when you pull out it's choke, and when you push in it's run?

Understand, we are in the same state at least, just such a big one :) Correct it has the knob, out is choke, but I believe it's supposed to add gas as well. It starts without too much kicking in all conditions regardless so I'm not too worried, other than wanting it to be "right"

Honda type 4stroke carbs have lever operated shutters.
Yamy's lift a piston adding fuel & air.
Thought i'd just add that in the mix.

Replaced the front tire/tube today. Watched some videos posted in this thread  Tire sizes & Where to find... - Vintage Enduro Discussions (yamaha-enduros.com) . Was very easy, almost too easy

. Anyway, took a pic of the existing brake shoes. Took a crude measurement of the diameter and there still seems to be plenty of material left based on the manual specs. I assume it's still advised to replace them?
