Personaly I'd say that's the worst way to remove the clip i've ever seen. [where the hell did that go--ping!!]. I followed it to the end which i nearly didn't but thought wonder how he refits the clip--uses pliers. Pliers is how i remove the clip & never escapes. Also how i refit it Not sure on his 'chain' refiting method either, which you could only do if the adjusters were backed off enough to run the chain on after fitting link. Maybe i'm getting too old for new ideas lol.

Also talking brake shoes & in "No Way" am trying to sway the dissgussion.
But any linings that have let go in the bonding i've found to have alloy corrosion growing on the exposed part of the shoe which i guess has worked its way under the shoe lining & compromised the bonding.
I've sat suspect ones in the bench vice & tapped a screwdriver at the end & some have jump off but others are still healthy & bonded.
It's a lottery not worth gambling on.
But i can shoot my theory to bits a little as i 'Now' recal 'just once' on a yamy scooter which luckily 'i was on' & not sister inlaw, & i touched the 'rear' brake then one lining let go & locked the rear solid into a wild slide to a halt from maybe 30mph.
Actually one more time in hindsight on a KX250, rear wheel, last lap of a long distance race & a long way from home in the early "70's.
Most unusual--but it happens. Both were around the same time so might have been our local brake specialist that bonded new linings onto everything--cars bikes etc.
Replacement genuine shoes were expensive compared to today & all the aftermarket options. [well i guess genuine still aren't cheap].
As i said--i'm not trying to sway the dissgussion. Just saying--that's all.

This is how I've always removed the masterlink. I was going to post this video first, but the sprocket is on the right side, and I wanted to avoid confusion. So everyone can take a deep breath and relax, and forget about the "PING" version :o)

Yep that's good.
Actualy i do it just on the first pin squeezing & it free over the pin & pushing i guess to keep weight on it so it doesn't escape.
Everyone to their own.
I wonder in that first video if the link didn't just dissapeare as it seems to do in the vid & maybe stayed put on the other pin before he lifted it off.

What tire pressure do you all recommend? Manual says 13 PSI in the front and 15 in the rear...seems low but what do I know. My daughter will most likely ride around town initially. We ended up purchasing the Shinko SR 241 tires...each a 1/4" smaller than the originals (2.75 x 19 in the front and 3.00 x 18 in the rear).

I'd go by the manual. My CT-1C lists 17 PSI rear and 14 PSI front for on road riding, and that's what I run.

Gosh, does sound way too soft for road riding 'in my opinion', but everyone to their own.
I'd go 24psi personally.
If you run them too soft it'll want to go straight ahead on corners on the road as they get too flat topped on low pressure.
Well, call it flat bottomed where it rolls on the road.

Running at the lower pressures should be fine... and a really good idea on dirt. Higher won't hurt on paved roads.
In about 77 or 78 Yamaha started publishing on and off road tire pressures. This is the chart from the 125/175 manual

Thanks for posting that chart Mark. My CT-1 owners manual specifically says 14 and 17 for on-road, but I'm going to bump it up and try it.

Thanks for posting that MarkT.
Yesterday we installed the front and rear brakes, new tubes/tires. We cleaned the chain. Rolled into the garage. This morning we rolled out of the garage and was going to lube it and get it ready for its first ride in a long time. Then we attempted to move it again and it wouldn't budge. It was in neutral. Put it on the jack and chain would forward/reverse only slightly. When moving it, it made a sound as if it was trying to be kick started. In hindsight, I should have posted at that point. Instead, we attempted to kick start it. There was a loud noise and then a burning smell

. The chain moves freely now, however we found a spring on the ground. No clue where it came from. (see pic). I'm sure it's related to whatever the heck we did.
Man...hope we didn't do any permanent damage. Any idea why the chain was locked and what the burning smell was? Any idea where the spring came from?
