That video is John Stein on his YDS based Catalina Scrambler racing at Catalina.
He took a YDS3 and had Scott Clough build the motor and pipes.
Ironically he came across a "genuine Ascot Scrambler" when he was building his Catalina
race bike. He was looking for a parts bike....so he used some of the parts for his race bike.
Eventually I then purchased this genuine Ascot from him...and this is the Ascot that's the subject of this thread......as they say the rest is history.
John Stein attended Cal Dreamin1 in 2014 with his son's...
He can be seen at 1:51 cruising by on his modern bike.

I am seeing red !
In a good way.....
Lance finished up all my red parts for the Ascot last week.

It's all looking good....

The air cleaners were actually powdercoated by the PO and came with the bike. The red is pretty close
to the red I chose to use. Just a shade or two darker.
I won't tell if you don't ?

Very nice Dave. I am following this thread closely. Like I told you, I am getting more and more into the early YAMAHA bikes as I really never noticed them before. They are quite special.
Question authority, think for yourself!

I have just found a set of rims and spokes that I will be lacing up for this project.....
it will be a few weeks till I have them. So more later on that.
I need your guys opinion....based on the photos in this article
"what tires do you think I should use on this project ?
I would like tires that look similar to the one's in this article...as per the article this is an unmolested Ascot.
After reading the article....should I run 12:1 premix ratio ?

Those long skinny knobby pattern tires were popular in Japan back then. I needed one for the front of my scrambler and it took over a year to find one, finally in Japan .
