I would like to see some of your other stuff Pat. Meis was telling me about it. Start a thread.

Since the goal of this site is to become the quintessential resource for the early Yamahas, and this build is just so cool, I am adding YDS2 & YDS3 pages to our model database. They will be listed under other yamahas for now.

Hopefully Meis will be willing to share some of the technical info so we can start to flesh out those pages!

not sure if this helps or is relevant but looked interesting--as is the restof the site.

damn it every link seems to lead somewhere more interesting. Better than watching tv anyway.

I have been interested in these early Yamaha's and especially the scramblers since I saw the photos of John Stein's YDS based scrambler he was building for the 2010 Catalina Grand Prix !

Then actually attending the race and seeing them in action

I have been hooked ever since....

Thanks for posting these links RT325... I have visited these pages before

Any chance you might have any manuals or other technical info? I have a line on some other cool stuff I am working on and the specs are pretty easy.

When I was browsing last night looking I did find some neat "scrambler" stuff, so who knows. The site really just needs to be complete so it is now part of a quest.

Really digging this thread Dave. Nothing on earth compares to the howl of a yammie twin. Great stuff!

Here's some photos I have saved in my photobucket from the 2010 Catalina Grand Prix

These were taken just after the race in the pit area.

The first set are of Yoshi's of the Garage Company and his RX47 factory racer ...
looks like he is running a set of Kenda 270's on his machine?

I am not sure of all the components he was using......but I think some of the parts are actual
RX47 factory race stuff? The tank, seat and wheels appear to be the correct Asama factory racer parts

I did get a shot of his motor's serial number which was a DS6 ....based on the left side cover the clutch appears to be on the transmission and could be a true factory Asama race motor.

I haven't gone back and studied these photos since I started my Ascot project....
but I knew these detailed photos would come in handy someday ?
Notice the motor has no kickstarter.....

Very cool scrambler up pipes.....with clamp on spark arrestors. As they were mandatory for the race.
