Welcome !
Also a good idea is to change the brake shoes out with new ones.
Cheaper than a Hospital visit.

Hi I've just joined, (in the uk)
my names carl, i have a 1975 dt 250,
i bought in 1977
its been stood a long time, 25 years since last run, I've got some pics.
ive stripped it now and accessing the damage,
engine turns fine, only done 6000 miles.
I'am going to need parts, and hoping some help and advice as i go along. The most recent riding ive done is on a royal enfield 350, we hired in goa on holiday. Want to get back on the road on my dt. I have done 1post on chinese tanks as I'am thinking this might be for me. Carl

I think that a lot of us wish that we'd kept bikes we had back then!
I have copied and pasted below some wording that I put together for sourcing parts (although not all of it will be relevant for your bike). I hope that this helps.
Apologies if you know some or all of this already, but here are a few tips for sourcing parts:- Familiarise yourself with what the parts actually look like by viewing as many photos of original bikes, brochures etc as you can. A fair few vendors don’t actually know what they’re selling and so often mis-describe them. Also, new old stock (nos) parts may have been taken out of their original packaging, but put back in a different, incorrectly labelled one. Don’t limit your search just to parts for your own model. A lot of generic parts (eg indicators) were used on a load of different models. CMSNL (in Holland) and Partzilla (in the US) are good websites for both buying parts and seeing which other models used that part. On either site, if you click on the part number and scroll down, you can see which other bikes that part was fitted to. The slight limitation on this is that their databases are limited to US models. If you intend putting the bike back on to the road, seriously consider fitting a 6v voltage regulator. I have attached the Yamaha Bulletin on this subject below. Some forum members are able to supply new original or high quality reproduction parts – eg DEET has, amongst many other items, replacement silver/grey sheething that covers the wiring, 6v regulators and I believe that he also makes brand new complete wiring harnesses/looms. Therefore don’t be afraid to ask here for any parts that you need. All the best. Alan

New (old) guy here in Tennessee.
This is my first venture into restoring a vintage bike. I found a 1983 DT100 in an old farmers barn and have decided to give it a go. It barely runs and needs some TLC. I've ordered new parts, cables, etc so I'm sure I'll be reaching out often.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Mally

Hi, I'm Jerry registerd as Gerald I live in Jackson ,S.C. about 4 miles from Augusta ,Ga. I purchased a 1975 DT125B Yamaha loaded with electric start , extra rear seat. I bought this jewel with orginal purchase slip ,owners manual and it was bought in 1977 new. It doesn't have any fire and you can see where someone had taken the left cover off so looking into this matter. Looking forward to meeting other Yamaha owners out there.
