Thanks - good luck with your bidding. He's a nice reliable guy although mine wasn't as good in the flesh as described! Cheers. Pete

I am a simple man making my way through the galaxy, like my father before me.

I plan to share the story in some detail eventually. In short, I inherited from my dad in 2019 2 1960's Ducati Monzas. One was his only transportation when he first started dating my mom. I knew the bikes as toys to play on in the garage that never ran. We talked endlessly of fixing them but talked never turned to plans until he became terminally ill. We got all the parts collected and sorted. We had one tank bead blasted repaired and primed but time got away from us. I had and still have no idea how to fix them up on my own. I searched for a long time for someone to do the work and I am still searching. But in the meantime the realization is coming that I am going to have to learn how to do a lot of this myself.

Enter Mad Max! Last fall I saw a 1972 DT 250 for sale from close neighbor for a great price. I was handing him the cash within an hour of his post going up on Facebook. I didn't even think it through fully. But as I was driving home thinking how to explain to my wife the bike in the back of the truck when I promised I was only going to look. I realized here I have a similar vintage 250 cc single. This is the perfect bike to practice repair and restoration skills. So hopefully by the time I begin the sentimental legacy restoration of my Ducatis I will have enough sense not to mess them up too badly.

2022 Yamaha XT 250
1965 Ducati Monza 250 (legacy project not running yet)
1966 Ducati Monza 250 (legacy project not running yet)
250 singles are my jam!

Hi I`m Doug from the UK.

I had a DT175MX for a couple of years in the early 80`s .
Dabbled in road racing and more recently Enduro on a KTM250 2t.
Had the current 1979 DT175MX since 2001 , bought as a wrecked field bike for £25.
Its now got a later frame that is registered in 1985.
Raising a couple of kids slowed the rebuild up, its now got a freshly rebuilt 125 engine in so my 18 year old can ride it legally in the UK.
Old git, collection of other bikes ranging from 1100 GSXR, TL1000R , KTM250EXC, RD350LC`s

Hello -

Bob from Florida. Just bought a 1978 Yamaha DT 175 in decent running condition - first bike I've had in 40 years! Starts easy, runs fairly strong, shifts ok, will not idle, Head and tail lights don't work, blinkers and blinker indicator works, horn works, neutral gear light does not work. Lots of little cosmetic things of course but is not bad for it's age. This will be will be my first restoration. Hope to speak with all of you soon as I begin this project - hopefully within the next month.

Clean the carb...two or three times. Sounds like the idle jet and or pilot jet may be clogged. Then it should idle for you.

Welcome! from the UK.

Regarding the lights, if the bulbs have blown, just check that the voltage regulator is present and working. Also make sure, at least for the head and tail lights, that the ignition key doesn't need turning round one more notch (some models do).
