you have the later 1968 DT1 there just before Yamaha started to roll out the 1969 models.

these bikes are very simple and easy to work on.

I would clean the carb and go from there. your bike is very largely intact too! a easy resto if you decide to do that.

your 1968 DT1 has the 1969-1971 type fuel tank mounting. both of mine have 2 standoffs on the tank for a front tank bracket to bolt on to over a peg on the frame.

Looks like the 68-DT1 did not have the
Handle - Rear Stop Switch Assembly.

The 68 DT1 Toolbox, started-out
hinged, not Cotter Pinned.

This one might not have made it
to the end-of-the-run.

the early 1968 DT1 does have a unique tool box on them. I have a original one from a very early production 1968 DT1 and the latch on it is totally different. if I had a decent camera I would take pictures and post them here. :Ugh

the later 1968 DT1 I have did not have the original tool box on it so I got a 1969-71 type on it right now.

I've been collecting sales brochures for decades , US Yamaha for 20 years .
I had good contacts who obtained a lot of very good items for me .
I've never seen one of these before , and suspect they would have gone out to
major dealers ahead of the bikes . Perhaps the feedback on the red frame wasn't good .
If you look at the Feb 68 Cycle World test of DT1 / GYT kitted bike , the GYT kitted bike
was like this brochure , with red frame and fork sliders .
If anyone has one of these brochures , I'd be very interested in purchasing it , or even if
someone could send me a scan , that would be great .

these pics are pretty old and I did not have a decent camera back then and my good camera died and I have yet to replace it.

the new camera is on the shopping list!

the 1968 DT1 went through more running changes than any other bike I know of. this is why they have such a mystique about them.
