Hello and thank you for letting me join a club for super cool motorcycles. When I was a kid, 12yo I owned a used Yamaha 60, all my cuzins had new XRs or other Honda's. Anyways, fast forward 42 years I now have another Yamaha 2 stroke. I understand them more now than when I was a 12yo. I had many bikes but this is only my third two stroke. Last year I bought a 69 Yamaha Trail Master L5T. It mostly sits in my house looking pretty. I just recently purchased a 73 DT350, and it's a 8 out of a 10 maybe. Right now I'm trying to bring it up to inspection standards with electrical. The headlight is burnt on the top small filament, no brake light, no tail light, no rear blinkers. The bike didn't have a battery when I bought it either. So, I have 8 bikes, not breaking my back to get this one on the road, but I'm anxious to get it street legal. Good thing is only 7K on odometer, tin is in pretty good shape, motor sounds new, most everything seems to be stock. The tires or not original, they are Cheng ????, They seem to be good dirt tires. I'll post pics when I figure out how. I'll use this site looking for a electrical diagram with colors, and other info I'm sure you guys are knowledgeable of. Seems this paragraph was pretty long winded, so this is it for now. Thanks

First I suspect you have a 360 not a 350

We have both the service manual and good wiring diagrams for download in the workshop. You will need them.
Also, read the service bulletin on blown headlights from Yamaha: yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/service-bul...e-voltage-regulators
If you have trouble posting pics look in the site how to section near the bottom of the main forum page. Several good threads there.
The tires are Cheng Shen who makes a decent tire. Inexpensive and work well. One of the few with proper sizes for these old bikes. If restoring the bike, the Shinko SR-241 or the IRC TR-1 are close matches.
You need to read up on the lighting circuits as the bikes use AC for the headlight and DC for most everything else. A good battery is needed to keep from blowing bulbs as the service bulletin will explain.
Lots of knowledge on the forum, so you came to the right place!
IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

From edmonton, alberta in the great white north. Just picked up a 73 rt3. Been fixing up some of the wiring. It's a good running bike. It will be a great rider until I decide to restore it. Also have a 74 dt250. Needs to have the top end looked at and it's missing a signal but otherwise complete. And rounding out the yamaha's is a 72 rt2. No lights of any kind, dent in the tank but it is a rocket.

I am still working in technology. Our families now live nearby one another in two different developments with acreage and private roads so I have the ability to play with the DT-360 with out licensing the Enduro for use on public roads. We also both enjoy working with one of our company (Yamaha Viking Utility ATV) units.
I have less than 2,000 miles on the 360.
I had an unusual experience with the 360 fairly early in its life. It suddenly manifested a transmission problem and I had to limp home in a low gear. I took it to the authorized dealer for the repair and then got a surprise. The dealer called to ask if the cases had ever been split (opened to work on the gears) and I said "No". They said: "It looks like this repair is going to be on the factory." They then described the fact that a synchronizing gear was missing and that was the cause of the sudden inability to shift gears.
While we were in the Yamaha dealership recently they piqued my interest in my classic 360 and the forums.

Glad to hear you found us. Did the dealership tell you about the forum? Just curious, as I would love to pass along a thank you if so!
Post up a Pic of your bike as it sounds like a true survivor. Great story - if you are located anywhere near some of the upcoming ride events, maybe we will convince you to get a tag on the beast!

Wow, What a site!
Chris here from "ostraliah"
I've got 2 DT360s and 1 RT360 to restore they all run but the RT2 is pretty rough. the DTs need a good clean up and lots of chrome work and the obligatory tank dents.
They are the old mans bikes and i grew up riding these things from a young age, love the look of the RT2 but that front guard on the DT360s just screams farm bike to my eyes.

Thanks for the site kudos. It is like an onion and more on the way daily. We've only been online about 11 months now, but there are some real experts on the board as well as a lot of international members, including some Ostralians!
Post up some pics, look through our workshop and get a cup of coffee before you dig too deeply into the forum - there is a lot there!
