Looking at it closer, it appears you might have connected the VAPE red to a green and a yellow?  Picture is cut off on the right so just guessing.

The big mystery and the likely problem is why any of the original Yamaha red wires were messed with and left disconnected?

You are correct.....the extras wires were originally connected to the OEM ignition.....the Vape instructions aren't very Yamaha specific so I am unclear what the double red, Yellow, Black and green are for......

Hoping you can give me some direction.

The problem is no "double red" ever went to the original ignition.  As I believe RT325 said a long time ago, that probably was part of the fuse holder connections?

What exactly in the original harness did you connect the red out of the VAPE Regulator/Rectifier?

What did you connect the VAPE brown to?

I connected the red from the Vape to: Green/Red, Yellow, Red and positive to battery

Brown from Vape to the negative post of the battery.

I may be getting an idea of what's going on.

Originally there should have been two single reds near the battery with female connectors and one red with a male connector. The two female reds have the fuse holder plugged into them and the male red went to battery. Did you connect the VAPE red to one of those reds? Or a different red? Can you show us what you did?

Do you have battery power at the unused double red?

The double red and white is where the stock rectifier connected. The black was probably the original points wire.

Since you removed the rectifier, the green you connected and the other green (one should be a green/red) are useless and don't need to be connected to anything. The green you connected (I don't know if it's green or green/red, can't tell by pictures) is powering the white when key is on day or night position depending on which green you connected.

White is no longer needed either without rectifier.

Most important question is do you have battery power at the double red?  Should be hot all the time.

Mark T,

I have inserted a video to show my installation at this point:

Red coming out of Vape goes to

- Green with Red wire and a yellow wire
- Red wire
- Battery positive post

Four wires not hooked to anything currently are:

- Double Red
- White
- Green (Black tape over end)
- Black (Black tape over end)

Brown Wire from Vape goes to negative battery post

Quartermaster, The blue scotchlock connector you used to tap into the red is likely to cause issues down the road.  It's NOT your issue.  The yellow it's powering is why your headlight works.  The green you randomly there does not need to be connected at all the way you've wired it.  If your headlight quits someday, that "scotchlock" is the place to look.

It's hard to see but it looks like you have two reds connected to the battery +  You really should have a fuse between the battery + and the wires connected to battery +.

I would also add a wire from battery - to a good frame ground.  (If there is one, I didn't see it)

THE ABOVE SUGGESTIONS ARE NOT CAUSING YOUR ISSUE.  Let's get back to your problem.

Please answer my last post.  Do you have battery power at the double red all the time (as long as battery is charged of course)?  My guess is probably yes.

The way you've decided to wire the VAPE is not the way I'd do it but it should work.  You could even disconnect the green by the yellow you connected and it would make zero difference.  I already answered about all the other wires you left disconnected.

I'm pretty sure at this point that you have an issue somewhere else.  Back in post #13 you said this same issue was there before the VAPE was installed.  And in earlier questions you did not have power at the brown coming out of the key.

Your next steps are very simple.

1.  You need to make sure you have battery power at the red going into the key switch.  Red should have power at all times if battery is good.
2.  You need to make sure you have power to brown coming out of the key switch when the key is both "on" positions.

I'm certain your problem is the red is either not getting power to the key or the brown out of the key is not supplying power to the bike with key on

Mark T,

Thank you for the continued responses..... I am very grateful.

- I do have power to the double red all the time

- I will remove the Scothlock and replace with a better connection

- I have a ground from the negative post on the battery to the frame.

- Please advise how you would wire to for the Vape system...... I did the best I could from the instructions, but I am not good at this and would greatly appreciate your directive on it.

- I will test the red and brown wires at the key switch as suggested.

Thanks.

What you've done with the VAPE wiring will work just fine.  Let's try to get the rest of the system working.
