David (post #1206 Tain) welcome to the forum from Andy in Ipswich UK..

Your intro caught my eye when you mentioned your Triumph Spitfire. My first car was a green M reg Mk IV 1300 Spitfire. Thought I was the bees knees in that car...

. Like you I ended up doing a resto (engine only) on it because it 'dropped out' a con rod big end shell. I was absolutely 'caning it' down the A12 back from London one Sat evening to ensure I saw my girlfriend at the time.....when disaster struck !! Long story short, did full repair over a few days in my Uncles W/shop, kept the girlfriend too, well at least for a few more weeks

. Eventually though the rust along with my erratic driving became too much for the bodywork. Got £30 for it at a local breakers.
Ironically I sold my M/cycle at the time to buy that car. It was a Yamaha DT250B...a big mistake selling it but I needed the money. Anyway I put that right about 5 years ago when I bought the same model (not actual bike) again. I often wonder what happened to my original bike, and that girlfriend....happy days !!
Good luck with your bike resto. Loads of info on this site and from forum members.

I’m John (14) Pittsburgh. I have a 1981 MX100 that I have restored over the past winter. I grew up with the bike and finally was able to get a job to be able to fund basically my own frame up restoration. New top end, painted fenders, covers, polished everything, cleaned fuel system, carb, countless new parts… I learned so many new techniques, how a two stroke actually works, etc. During the process, I watched and read so many pieces of info on the Yamaha MX and DT bikes and motorcycles in general. And that’s what eventually lead me here to the Yamaha enduro forums. Don’t mind the hideous tank. I’m still working on getting it done right for paint and new graphics.

Thank you for allowing me to the forum! It's already helped me get a barn find 1974 yamaha dt 125 up and running! Found the 12v vs mag bikes difference, setting the float, even how to get the clutch plates unstuck! She's a runner now .... all I need is the actual turn signals and a nice tank for it ( this one seems plastic.. appears to be one off of an rm 125. Trail riding here in Michigan this weekend wish me luck!
