I was born in sweden in the early 70-s and I think I was named after Jimmy Hoffa
The first pic of my DT. Brush painted red and silver. Looked pretty ok from a few feet away.

Then I re militarized it based on the few pics I could find. Read somewhere that only about 450 was ordered by the danish army so if thats correct then I got my hands on a pretty rare DT not beautiful but special, which kinda sounds like how the doctors could have presented me to my parents .

Welcome. Nice bike. I would’ve put it back too. Always thought those were cool.

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. My first dirt bike was an ‘82 IT250. Did a lot of trail riding on that bike and it kindled my interest in competing in Enduros and Hare Scrambles. Over the years I owned many different bikes and had dreams of one day competing in the ISDE. Unfortunately I was never more than a mid-pack B-rider on my best day. Eventually marriage and kids became more of a priority. Ten years ago I started competing in vintage motocross and vintage trials in addition to trail riding with my two sons. Recently I decided to get into racing vintage cross-country. Sure wish I didn’t sell that IT years ago, but life happens. A few weeks ago I was given a ‘79 YZ400. The bike itself has very little time, but suffered from the neglect of sitting outside under a tarp for 30-something years. The previous owner was always “going to get it running one of these days”. I think when he found out how scarce parts are it scared him off and he just wanted it gone. At least he kept pouring oil down the spark plug hole which filled up the bottom end.

Grettings from New England. I grew up riding dirt bikes and had a couple am mx experiences but sold my bike when I was in college.
Im currently a furloughed oyster farmer so to keep myself sane and my hands busy I picked up a 1975 dt250 on Nantucket back in May. The previous owner was a sponsored rider and was in the middle of converting it into a Race bike for the vintage races around New England. He instead decided to build a bike for Baja and did the Baja 1000 last December. I got it pretty cheap and it came with a tub of parts he had already taken off (gauges, lights, autolube system, wiring harness). I reinstalled on the the lights, gauges and autolube system and then tried my best to navigate the wiring harness. As of today everything is hooked up, hopefully correctly. But im having issues getting a spark, and Im pretty sure the gremlin is in the stator, when I pulled the flywheel the first time the source coil wasnt even in there, but it was in the tub o parts. I hooked it back up, but probably wrong because still no spark. Would love for someone to point me in the direction of the ignition and electrical gurus of this forum. Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated.

from the UK.
The real experts will be along soon. However, if you're keen to get on, search the forum for something like "single black wire" and you should pick up forum member RT325's threads regarding getting a spark without even using the ignition switch.

Not sure who I think I am currently, but would love to become a successful vintage Yamaha Enduro restorer eventually.
My name is Casey. Currently living in Florida, USA. Have always loved fixing small engines, but I recently purchased a 1975 Yamaha DT250 off Facebook market for $300 and this will be my biggest project I've ever undertaken. Engine needs a full rebuild and that's just the beginning. It's more about the journey than the end result, though.
I've posted a few pictures down below. Thanks for having me! Hope to learn a lot! Have a good one!

From the photo posted, it looks fairly complete apart from the rear light.
Lots of manuals in the Tech Library here for you to download for free!
