Welcome! We’re going to need to see some pictures. We like pictures........
There’s a lot of tech info and a wealth of knowledge available here. Use the tech library and the search function.
I have a similar stable. Most on the wrong side of the restoration table. Brother has a 77 xt500.

Hello all,

I recently found a 1973 Yamaha MX 250. It has been sitting outside for over 10 years to my knowledge. I brought it home and began to pull it apart to see what all was wrong with it.

When I found it, the wheels were locked up, the handlebar was missing, along with the upper clamps, the brake and clutch handles were missing, and the cables were seized. The kickstarter was locked into the bike and wouldn't move. The shift lever did move, and I could shift up and down, but I have no idea what gear it was in.

I have since dismantled most of it, and found it to be in suprisingly good condition. I can across this forum when looking up the bike and figured it would be worth hearing what the "experts" have to say about trying to restore it.

Let me know, thanks!

I realized I forgot to introduce myself. I am Michael Jolibois, from around Portland, Oregon. Here are the pictures of the bike right after I pulled it out of the woods. The side panels were off.

It looks bad, but I have since pulled most of it apart. I will have more pictures soon (I hope). The transmission still had oil in it, the air filter, as you can see, was toast. The Mikuni carb looked bad, but I pulled it off, and the throttle worked, though the cable was stuck. The frame is still solid, I am repainting it in the near future. The fiberglass and a flap of cloth was all that was left of the seat. I am going to try to restore the fiberglass and make a custom seat.

Anyways, I will be trying to get more pictures of all the components tomorrow, so hopefully you all can see what I am working with. Thanks for whatever help comes my way!

Update: So as to not fill the introduction thread with more than an introduction, I have started a new discussion under the Customs category. I will be posting my progress with this project as I go, along with questions. I am excited to get this thing running!
