Donnie here from West Virginia.
Retired Navy Chief.
Used to run around on a TS 125 in the late 70's until I got a 73 DT-1 250 early 1980.
I picked up a 70 model DT-1 a few years back. Had sat in a garage since 1991. Had to pull her down and free up the transmission and clean all the oil that turned to a thick paste off all the innards. Currently both cases are back together.

HI. Yamaha enduro rider in the 70's, and now the owner of a 1973 CT3 and a 1975 DT 175. I bought the CT3 to work on, and the 75 to ride. The 73 came first and it's now a rolling frame. The 75 arrived two weeks ago and has never run. (I was told it ran by the seller). I have 105 lbs of compression, spark and a clean carburetor and gas. It has never even barked like it wanted to start. Last night I sprayed starter fluid in the airbox and liquid came out the exhaust port. Any suggestions? Is 105 lbs enough compression? I'm thinking I need to get it honed, or bored and install a new piston and rings. Thanks in advance!

Little confused... Do you mean starter fluid came out of the exhaust port? If its not starter fluid you might have a filled crankcase and would have to clear it out by turning it upside down and letting it drain out.

I agree, probably will run fine... just extremely flooded from bad petcock or petcock left on.

Oil pump check valve will sometimes fill engine with autolube oil... takes years to happen though.

If full of liquid... and sounds like it might be... fluid is not compressible so sometimes will pop out a crank seal, normally the clutch side.

Hey everyone, my name's Mariah and I just swooped up a 75 yamaha dt 125e. This will be my first restoration project and I'm looking for all the help. It needs a new battery and then we'll see from there. I'm hoping to get it street legal and hook up turn signals and sort out the headlight. It was in clean ish storage and ran last summer. If its in the stars, I'll be remaking the seat and grips with leather and will show process pics of that. I think I'm gonna purchase a whole new battery, I've been trying to follow some preexisting threads but I'm still so new i don't really understand... should i convert to a 12v? Dude i got the bike from said it was originally a 6v battery. Any suggestions? Thanks, glad this place is here!

Welcome! from the UK.

Does the 'E' in DT125E stand for electric start? If yes, I'm pretty sure that the battery would be 12v - maybe 12N7-3B, but wait for others to confirm. If you're unsure, the start button will be on the right handlebar switch, just where your thumb sits in a comfy position.

If no electric start, then battery is 6v.

As you've probably already sussed out, loads of info and manuals in the Tech Library here (see top tool bar).

Good luck and fire away with any questions!
