thanks all
i am going to blow heat through the pipe today eliminate the chance something crawled up it to nest
still waiting on the o ring and ultrablack so will have to wait to get the clutch cover off
it was alarming how hot the pipe got as was hoping it was reassembly lubricant burning off, it basically metled the Enduro lettering off
this is from another forum post so appologies for nabbing bfor my own use but its the exact same issues
will also check those mystery holes as that was the casing side that was worked on for the bearing shim so possible its been dislodged i would be sceptical of the seal going so soon as nowhere really for it to go and would think the o ring would let so much oil in to cause that much smoke, could be wrong, wouldnt be the first time

* update: not getting any smoke at all from heating pipe through, guessing the pipe got a good clean through when it got so hot first start up

ok so re timed it and now running almost as should
totally in dark why timing being off would result in quite so much smoke
its still not quite revving out and will die after a while
at least its not the seals then
hoping thats the carb as its the old one back on and it was always termpermental
have a chinesium one coming which i will try for abit till i get the Mic dialled right
will update when i hav it running well enough to take out

Are you locking the advance open when timing?  Dial indicator probe parallel to bore?  Turning crank clockwise after finding TDC to find 1.8 mm BTDC?

The pipe getting that hot is likely why it would smoke so much... the positive thing is you won't have to worry about burning out the pipe on a bonfire or something!

Hi thanks

as i say unsure if carb or timing still
timing 1.8mm BTDC with dial gauage and points checker (discivered a marking on the flywheel that lines up with a tang on the coil end when its right)
heres a vid of it running briefly and a confused hippy
imgur.com/a/QIEi3Wm
its not reving out backfires/spluts a bit occasionally
unsure if still timing related or carb issue
still hopefully wont have to pull the clutch and the smoke is all gone

Sounds like a misfire...  have you tried new spark plug and cleaning the point contacts?

Did you abrasively clean the contact faces on your new points before fitting them?  I ask this because new points often come with a thin coat of preservative laquer on the faces to prevent corrosion in storage.

The contact faces on new points should always be cleaned with sandpaper upon fitting.

The other bike in the video you posted sounds flooded/rich. Yours has more of a "ring-ding" sound which makes me think it's not rich but just a miss?

O-ring that seals bowl to jet setter is critical as is having original Mikuni jets and slide needle. Aftermarket carb kits often come with jets and slide needles that cause running issues.

Replied by Sneezles61 on topic DT175C (76) smoking after rebuild and running hot

My rt2 runs a bit crappy until it warms up.. about 5-10 minutes.
