Poor running at part throttle w/video was created by AirborneSilva

Hi guys and happy Saturday.  I mentioned this in another thread but wanted to make a new one as the other was a different issue.  Here's the video of it running, bike has brand new top end, bored 1st over, ported and a 34mm Mikuni carb.  When I first got it together I was having issues with 3/4 and above throttle but had that pretty well sorted with small main jet, now all of a sudden it doesn't want to run at even 1/8th throttle as you can see/hear in the video.  The spark plug is brand new Autolite 4054 gaped at 22.  Thank you for looking and any advice, Tony

I believe it’s needing more gas.. sounds like it’s starving…
But how to fix that… ? It’s a bigger carb.. can you put pull the choke on when you are riding.. maybe that will add some gas and smooth it out… Then you’ll know ..

That's a good idea, I can leave the choke on to see if that will work to add more fuel.  Also, would that be the pilot jet since it's at suck a slight twist of the throttle?  Thanks for the suggestion!

That’s something I don’t know much of… but it’s my journey for my RT2…. I hope starting this week!
Let’s find out together.

Sounds like a plan.  Maybe someone who knows a bit more than us will chime in to let us know we are either on the right path or are barking up the wrong tree...

Need to hear how it accelerates through the whole range , Normally a 2 stroke needs to be a little rich at that point so you wont get a part throttle seize cruising or decelerating , How does it sound if you wing the throttle a bit ?

All I heard was a two stroke running. It's not a four stroke. Under light load they will break up. When you upshifted it sounded solid until the speed caught up to it and it became lightly loaded and broke up. What I heard sounded pretty typical. As Racer said...video of running through the gears with more throttle for higher RPMs.

Hi Rich, not sure what you mean by "wing" the throttle.

Thanks Pedalcrazy, if you watch my right hand while I'm going through the gears I'm giving it light throttle but when I give it more it just breaks up, poops and spits.  Trust me, this is not typical and while I'm certainly not as smart as others with these two strokes I'm not a complete moron when it comes to motors and how they should run.  Sorry if that sounded pissy, not meant to and I do appreciate the help.

It sounded kind of "normal" to me too.

I couldn't really tell what it was doing wrong...  I kept waiting for you to get on it more (open the throttle, "wing it") and hear it die out or something? The little bit of smooth and pop mix sounded kind of normal to me too...  especially for a ported engine with a bigger carb that might be cold and/or not "cleared out".

(By "clearing out" I mean fully warmed up and then run hard at wide open or near wide open throttle for a bit...  that is if your timing is set right and wide open throttle is jetted safe enough to do that.)

Great video!  Well done.  One thing that might help viewers is putting a piece of masking tape on the throttle grip with an index line and another tape on metal housing with index lines that shows how far throttle is being opened.

P.S.  If it does die out and won't run at all if you give it more than a little throttle it appeared you were giving in video, make sure clip is on slide needle and/or that needle didn't get bent or something.
