Hi There! I'm Jake from Utah. Mostly here because my 14 year old son started restoring a JT2 a couple years ago, and now we are in the final stages and looking for a couple of parts that we have had difficulty finding. When he got it, it was nothing more than a completely torn apart bike in a tote and missing all the tanks and fenders. Now that it is nearing completion, I'm thinking it might be cool to get myself a matching bigger vintage enduro to take out together riding.

Welcome from NZ. Good plan you have. Maybe buy an electric start 125 then you can cruise along with him. When he's older he can take over the 125 & you get a 175--just to keep one step ahead of him haha.

Welcome from Michigan!
I love the little JTs. It was my first real motorcycle.
I currently have two of them. Red and yellow.
RTs suggestion is a good one, but I would look for a 175. The 125s are great bikes but they have the added complexity of the electric start that you wouldn't need. Small bore bikes kick start easy.

Hi all,
I had my first Ymaha CT3 175 waaaayyyy back in 73 when I was 15. I recently found a clean one with only "1476" miles on it. I enjoyed cleaning it up so much, restoring has become my hobby. I found another 73 CT3 that was in dire need of some tlc. I have issues though. My first mistake was that it has no title. My second mistake was that I bought it know the electric was messed up. ( I do not like electric, period.) Well, someone in the past had put a different strator assembly on and cut the original harness. So, I replaced the strator and fixed the wiring! After putting a lot of money into new parts and paint and decals ! Spark? Intermittent but it was there. Couldn't figure it out until I found a video explaing the strator and magneto. Light bulb moment! The magneto was working with the "replaced" strator. So now, I am currently looking for a Hitachi F-130 magneto flywheel! I post pics once I figure out how to upload.
I do want to thank this forum for all the info I am able to glean from the posts!

Hi all! Newbie here from Alberta, Canada checking in. I'm not new to motorcycles or vintage bikes. My current bike is a 1992 Suzuki DR350S that has been outfitted as a mini-Adventure bike for off-road moto-camping and in the past I've had a variety of old Kawasaki and Yamaha bikes. I owned a DT1 that had an RT3 engine in it (from a PO) and most recently inherited a 1972 CT2 175 from my dad. It has about 8000 miles on it and is in good shape. It has been sitting for 25+ years covered up. I've been tinkering with it and have it running/ idling well and everything appears to be working as it should. I'm currently waiting on 6V signal light bulbs and a front brake switch and I should be in a position to get it licensed and insured for the road! Looking forward to working to getting this one on the road. Take care.

Great that you've kept the bike in the family.
If you haven't done so already, replace both sets of brake shoes. New ones are still available from Yamaha and the CMSNL and Partzilla websites should have the current part numbers.
You mentioned replacing bulbs - what about the headlight? Sealed beam? Yamaha advised retro fitting a 6v regulator to these bikes - did your dad do that?
