I was thinking i would do the vinegar cleaning on the fuel tank but after taking a look inside it dodnt look all that bad. It must of sat with fuel in it for a while at some point, but for an almost 50 year old bike not too bad.
My question to you fine folks is do i vinegar the thing or not? Should i clean it in some other way?

Thanks

Thanks. It does look like it belongs in there. It is suprising light. I lifted it in and out of my ranger pickup by myself. I think it may be lighter than the 88 cr125 i had. Its almost like a mountain bike.

Its almost a time capsule. In truth it has at on a stand in the garage most of its life. By the time kids came around for my dad he parked it. When i was 10 to 12 be and i built a bench and the sachsaha when an the bench and we installed the repaired side cover, installed a new set of points and timed the motor and it fot a fresh carb. The he rode it for a few more years. After i got the cr 125 he saw how far suspension technology had come and he got a ktm 300. Then the sachsaha was parked again. He died a few years after that.

Great history behind it, thanks for sharing! As far as vinegar to the tank, its a great (and cheap) method. If you're doing other work that'll have the bike down a few days, I'd do it then, doesn't look like there is any need to rush into it. I had good luck doing vinegar, water rinse, WD-40, then setting up a shop vac to blow into it for some time, a little more WD-40 for a final coat and dry before adding gas.

If you do go down the vinegar route, just make sure that you remove the petrol tap first (unless it is made from steel), as the vinegar will make short work of a standard Yamaha tap. Don't ask me how I know...............!!
