Never too old to learn.
Time management when painting is one of the ingredients needed for good results without a lot of extra effort, I did not manage my time well and had to use a lot more effort and time.
Tank spraying earlier in the week was troublesome because I didn't really have the time once I'd started to complete colour coat and clear coat, which was my plan.
Optimum would be apply colour coat, hopefully with no inclusions, remove pinstripe masking tape 10 minutes after last coat, then apply clear coat layers whilst paint is still tacky, which will give it a chemical bond to the colour coat.
Unfortunately I had a few inclusions so I couldn't clear coat after my first attempt at the colour coat.
I was also having trouble with poor flow on my spray gun which I didn't figure out until I was towards the end of my second attempt at colour coat, the vent on the gun was blocked with dried clear coat from spraying the AT1-E tank.
Third attempt was successful, I managed to lay a lovely colour coat with no inclusions, clean the gun, peel the pinstripe masking and lay three good layers of clearcoat.
Of course between each attempt I had to key the tank and re-lay the masking tape over the pinstripe, got it down to 10 minutes the last time.
Paint I use is a MIPA 2K mixed 2:1 with a 10 minute hardener and I add 10% thinners.
Was a great feeling to finally complete the coloured parts and get a good finish, I'll leave them a few weeks before I flat back and polish.
The colour still remains a fraction lighter than the original paint tank, but I don't think you'd know unless they were side by side.
In other news I picked up the powder coating Friday, so lots of progress even if I did make it harder than it could have been.

May it ask, what type of spray gun for painting was used?

Hi Sneezles, here's the spray gun I use.
It's a 2 gun set I bought from Amazon, made by Voilamart, they still sell it in the UK for £35.99.
I manage to get good results with it.

More progress, cases split which turns out to be a good decision as the mains have rust.
Crank and cylinder will be heading off to Paul@PJME.
I'll have the crank rebuilt for peace of mind and also have the mag side seal diameter reduced to 24mm to clean up the pitting, just as I had done on a CT3 a few years back.
Cylinder is 1st over but needs a re-bore as it has a scuff near the exhaust port and is also oversized.
Rear shocks cleaned up nicely and are back on the bike.
Front forks are painted and ready to go.
Replaced a couple of broken spokes on the rear wheel and trued it up, fitted new tube and tyre and new bearings, just waiting on a replacement chain side seal.
Found the problem with the kickstart, the clip had got caught up and pulled off.
It caused a bit of damage to the bearing retainer, which in turn caused a nick out of one of the teeth on the clutch basket gear.
Looks like it won't have a detrimental effect, so I'll just dress it out with an oil stone.
Lot of other little jobs done, but still plenty to do.

We have a roller!
Steady progress, will package up the cylinder and crank this weekend to send out Monday.
Didn't work on the bike today as the great weather we've been having is set to change, so I took the Red Devil out for 115 miles of sun drenched fun.
I found a couple of new byways which despite the Red Devil being soooooo pretty I took them on, albeit a bit more steadily than I do on the Greenie.
Here's where we are and also a few photos of today's ride

Few more bits done.
Cylinder and crank have arrived at PJME, will await news from Paul as to which oversize piston I need.
Loom has had a clean up, with fresh connectors in the headlight and some of Deet's sleeving.
Replaced the sleeving on the light switch and managed to fashion a grommet from a fender mounting rubber.
Front wheel cleaned up well.
Found what I think is a great mounting position for the regulator, if I'd remembered beforehand that the '69 model taillight doesn't run off the battery I could have saved myself the job of running a cable from the regulator to the headlight.
I did make the effort and ran it through the loom sleeving, so can't be seen.
Waiting on some ring crimp connectors to make the earth cable.
Weather will dictate when I get a chance to paint the silver parts.

Finally finished the painting, it's amazing how many silver parts there are.
Really happy with the match when I compare to both of the CT1-Bs which still have the original paint.
All the paint is two part 2K and I've clear coated everything, then flatted it and knocked it back to a semi-gloss with a cutting compound.
Bit annoyed with myself, I thought I had some new fear fender mounting grommets, but I don't, so will have to wait until next week to get the fender and rack on.
Bore needed to go to fourth over to clean up the "scuff mark".
I managed to find a piston and rings here in the UK from Huggy's Speed Shop, which I've sent to PJME so they can now hone to finished size.
Few other bits done, certainly making progress.
