One out, one in was created by Pete-RT1

Despite storm Darragh battering the UK today I finally managed to collect the latest project today.
Met up with my mate at DK Motorcycles to deliver him my AT1-E which he has bought off me, making way for the '69 CT1.
Looking forward to getting this one up together and having a complete set of running CT1s

I’m jealous Pete. I would love to find a 69 CT1. Can’t wait to see you work your way thru this one.

Cheers Schu, I bet if you look hard enough you'll find one.
Original tank could be saved, but would need lining and although the POR15 lining I did on my RT1 was fine I prefer to have an unlined tank, so I got a good deal from DK Motorcycles on a replacement.
Replacement tank arrived from DK today, it's very solid with next to no rust, but as you can see has a few dents which will need a bit more than a polish.
Made a start on some of the dents using the heat gun and a tee bar to push the worst of the damage out, had to squeeze the tank back to the correct width with my quick clamps as it had spread 20mm with the force I was putting on it.
Will have another go at it when I have time.
Engine kicks over and has 130psi of compression using my gauge, my other CT1s have 150psi as a comparison.
Carb was oxidised and the slide spring was stuck at both end which meant it looked like spaghetti after I removed the cap, managed to straighten it all back out.
Lots of parts ordered, with a few arriving today.
Need to order some bits from KDI, but no rush.
Have requested a dating letter from Paul Dawkins so that I can get the bike registered.
Hare's the replacement tank, I think it probably holds a couple of pints less than my other bikes

Oh boy! You got your hands full with that tank. But I don’t blame you for taking it on if the tank is nearly rust free. That dent across the badge pocket will be a challenge. I had that problem on a lesser scale with one of my JT tanks. I was able to reshape the edge of the pocket with filler. Turned out better than I expected, because I am NOT a body work guy.

Managed to get the dents out to a reasonable extent using a length of 12mm threaded bar and some heat.
Bernie helped with the blow torch whilst I manipulated the dents.
Had to carry on solo today with the heat gun as Bernie off gallivanting around the country.
Today's top tip is to put a decent torch inside the tank so you can see exactly where the point you want to push is.

Here's the tool and the threaded bar

And here I always thought you were supposed to fill dents in with Bondo..........
No wonder some of my tanks only hold a half gallon of fuel.

Wow Pete.  When I saw the pic if that tank, my first thought was " what the hell have you done, no chance".

Mightily impressive work.

Tank still needs some more pushing out as it's still a bit shallow and I want the minimum amount of filler on it.
Will need to wait until after Christmas I think.
I did get a chance to dismantle the '71 seat that was fitted to the bike when I got it, I have got a good '69 seat to go on.
