Crocus cloth is also good for cleaning / polishing things like fork tubes.

pabdt, whats your plan when the bike is finished. Its so polished and pretty, I wouldn't let even look at a dirt road. If mine it would be trailered to shows, I would have another to thrash in the mud.
Don't get me wrong I love what you're doing. and learning a few tricks

plan is to get the bike in "very good" condition then use it for around town riding, gym, parts store, meets, etc. No trailers!
mud...nope, dirt roads probably. Fun...yes.

This is what I have, a Smithy Granite series 1324.
I've had this for 15 + years. For me it fit my needs and took up the least amount of floor space. It's small but does everything I've wanted or needed to do. I've done a lot more than it was ever designed or intended to do. The lathe is awesome for a small lathe, no complaints. The milling machine part is or can be a little sketchy but works ok. I'm a retired millwright / machinist and understand the limitations of the milling machine.

I've been eyeing the Shopmaster MillTurn for years now... I wish it came in a cheaper non-CNC model but looks like the ultimate home or even small business machine.
It was designed by a racer-engineer and has been refined over decades. Has a lot of great features for the kind of stuff I'd like to do like a 17" maximum swing over bed and 1.59" diameter spindle bore which are both usually only found on much larger machines... I like the rigidity of the mill too.... maybe someday...
www.shopmasterusa.com/millturn-specification/
(I have very little machining experience so it might not be a good machine... looks good to my uneducated eyes though.)

This is a great rebuild!! I just subscribed to watch how it goes and maybe learn something. I've been fixing up(Not restoring because I want to ride it) a 1973 RT3 360. I'm learning allot by following your thread.

Hey pabdt, just like to thank you for showing the great work you are doing on your DT360A.
I have three of them, two in fairly original condition, only minor aberrations. The third one I bought new in 1974.
I have just started repairing my original one back to "as ridden in the day" condition. It is highly modified from original, although the only engine mod is to the gear selector mechanism to stop it finding false neutrals when up-shifting.
Seeing how yours is turning out is tempting me to put a lot more effort into brightening up this one much more than I was intending.
Looking forward to see the final result.

the as ridden in 1974 condition statement was awesome ... that’s kinda where I’m headed.
when I restore another bike I will not polish the wheels again. I’m thinking for the next one going to powder coat them instead unless the hub is smooth in the center!!!!! Lol.
Right now I’m trying to finish this bike. Lots to do but almost a roller now

this side was oiled a little better and doesn't look as bad...very few rust pits. and yes, the plunger is still oil glued in lower fork, but pressure washer should solve that tomorrow.
