Keep in mind Yamaha makes more than just this one with several options.... all just as cheap.
Outlet configuration.... left, right, down, rear.
Out let diameter.... 3/16", 1/4", 5/16"

There are a number of alternatives. This particular one works really well on the Enduros I have used them on. Of course, you did the research! Throttle which is most appreciated!

Good Info :OnFire

But I feel more confused as I am torn between both

1, New style more miles and less work
2, Old original one refurbed for VJMC showing

I want to use mine but show it and to get it look like it's 2 or 3 year old look so I can blast it and show it

and a link so you can buy bits to do most of the job

Clearly for a 100 point restoration, you will be better off with a refurbished original.

You may find some of the functional rubber or strainer parts not available, and if they are, they will be made of original materials. Why do I think this is an issue? Because we are getting far different fuels today than when the old rubber bits were made. We now have the wonder of Ethanol. New fuels can have negative effects on old materials.

The new petcocks are for many current model bikes, which will use more resistant (read long-lived) materials for modern fuels. That and they are under $15 and are factory parts!

For a rider (like all of mine) I choose function over form . . .

I'm going to use one of those 3JN-24500-02 petcocks Makotosun mentioned, but I'm wondering about the screws and washers. I have my original petcock screws, but the heads aren't the greatest. They'll work, but my main concern is that I get washers that will seal. Has anyone used the washers or screws that Partzilla shows for the above petcock on a DT3, or do I need to look elsewhere?

You can use those just fine, or order the original seal washers. They may be the same.

Some folks have used fibre washers, but I have had little luck with anything but the originals. The problem is the gas follows the threads OD the mount screws if the washer doesn't kind of squish into them. The originals are designed to do this and work.

I feel that eve though they charge a bit much for a couple of washers, avoiding gas leaks is worth it.

By the way, I am using these petcocks on all of my bikes they will fit - very happy with the results!

I didn't see 1973 RT3 on that list, but the parts catalogs I looked at seemed to indicate that it took the same petcock as many of the bikes on the list, any confirmation that these would also fit an RT3 tank? Thx

dEET did the original research. He may have a tank he could verify with. My somewhat educated guess is . . . It should.

:Excited Again this site offers another solution to a potential problem. Thx Mako for the post on the fuel selector switch. When I receive my cost effective solution I will make a comparison to the DT 400's and post it here.
1975 DT 400B

If it moves and shouldn't , use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use liquid wrench.
