Brand New Yamaha Petcocks for our bikes! was created by Makotosun

So you have this old bike with a 30+ year old petcock. It leaks, it's corroded, and a reproduction one is at least $30 and as high as $150! What is a restorer on a budget to do?

Well, if you are working on any of the following bikes, we have a solution for less! About Half of the best price on a good repop.

1977-1981 Yamaha XT500
1977-1978 Yamaha IT175
1977-1978 Yamaha IT250
1976-1978 Yamaha IT400
1975-1978 Yamaha DT400
1974-1976 Yamaha DT250
1974-1975 Yamaha DT125
1974-1975 Yamaha DT100
1974-1975 Yamaha DT175
1974 Yamaha DT360
1973 Yamaha CT3
1973 Yamaha DT3
1972-1973 Yamaha DT2
1972 Yamaha AT2
1972 Yamaha AT2M
1972 Yamaha CT2
1969-1971 Yamaha CT1
1971 Yamaha DT1E
1971 Yamaha AT1M
1970-1971 Yamaha RT1
1969-1970 Yamaha AT1

Yamaha Part number 3JN-24500-02 is a modern, current stock petcock that will work. It is from a Yamaha Big Bear ATV, but the bolt spacing is right, the rubber innards are NEW not NOS and the fit is great. The best part is they cost about $15!!!

The petcock's look like this:

If you are a stickler for perfection or ar doing a 100 point restoration, you will want something else, but if you want a good petcock, cheap, Yamaha Factory Quality, CHEAP that you can actually get at your local dealer.
:woohoo: This is your solution! Did I mention they are Cheap? :woohoo:

IF it isn't one thing, it's another.

Has anyone figured out the reserve tube on these as far as a measurement for a stock enduro tank. Just wondering as I am going to have my bike going and would like to know if anyone has modified it.

Thanks Mako,

A complete petcock for the price of the
black, rubber valve. Can't beat that.

The main questions that I have are:

RESERVE - The NOS takes fuel all
the way down to the bottom of the tank.
What is True Reserve level on this one?

ON - Looks like some trimming has
to be done. Will that white, filter on
the tip, move down? Okay, if it don't.

Still, can't beat the price if a little mod
has to be done, to make it work.

First, this petcock goes all the way down and drains the tank like NOS on reserve. What appears as a plastic riser tube with the white screen inside is just a shipping protector for the screen. Once removed the screen is open to the plate.

To duplicate the amount of fuel left in the tank in the ON position, simply shorten the brass tube to be the same length as the petcock you are replacing.

I am using these on several bikes without issue. They work perfectly and look stock to all but the concours judge. They ARE Yamaha. Plus, I have to assume the rubber bits are modern formulation which should resist modern fuel formulations better . . .

The only problem I have Mako is that I don't have the old petcock from the tank.

On a NOS Petcock, the ON position
tube is 45mm in length, from the base.

I've been curious about this myself. I'm using a generic petcock that fits the tank, but the pick up tube's 69mm! No wonder I've been hitting the reserve at 40 miles.

It would be interesting to know if there are differences between the stock versions? If anyone has a known stock setup, and can measure and post results (maybe even a picture) it could be good information to collect together. I would assume with the different tanks between the AT/CT, the early DT and the later DT, the MX, and others, that the lengths could vary quite a bit. I will look at what I have but would appreciate any other information we can gather.

Thanks! OnFire

I am running one of these on My 78 DT 400 Rumble Bee. The old one only had flow on reserve. The new one works great.
