DT3 headlight was created by fossilrider

Being a computer idiot isn't fun..... but I confess, I am. I THOUGHT I posted a message a few days ago asking for help with a headlight solution for my DT3, but I don't think it ever got posted.? I have such a hard time navigating some of these sights, while others seem to be easier for me. So, I hope this gets through. My bike had no headlight, when I got it but I had a later '74-'79 or so without a lens/bulb assy., which I had already painted for the CT3 I did a couple years ago, but didn't use. So I put it on the DT thinking I would find a lens assy. for it. I did, but at $50 or so for a used one and $150+ for a new one, I think I will do some creative thinking. And ask for input, of course. Surely others have had this same problem and found an AFFORDABLE solution. My bike is not a 100 point resto so authenticity doesn't matter. I realize, being 6 volt, the options are slim but does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance. I also still need a wiring harness for the same bike. Steve

How about this:

The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

Thank so much! Was this on ebay? If so, I must have totally overlooked it. Exactly what I was looking for. This site is so awesome. I hope I can repay by helping others in the future. I immediately bought it. Best to you. Steve

Make sure you check ALL of the bulbs on the bike BEFORE you start it. Balanced system, all bulbs need to be good. Burned out my OE Kioti (one of those expensive ones) headlight when i skipped this step.

I have one of those. They are about 1/2" or so too big in diameter. But thanks.

Thanks for that heads-up. I know some of the early Yamahas would blow the headlight bulb when you reved them up, if you didn't put a voltage regulator in the system. Steve

Well, I guess I jumped the gun. I bought the sealed beam, and I guess I didn't read the listing well enough. This is the same item I already have. The listing states that it fits "many" Yamaha endures from '68 to (I don't remember, maybe '80 or so). Anyway, it is the 5 3/4" dia. bulb and does NOT fit the bucket I have, which I'm pretty sure is a '74- about '78 DT. I need a bulb that is about 5" and those are the ones that I have been seeing for $50 (used) to as much as $150 (new). I have been told to find one of the black plastic units from a DT100 (and others, I think) from '77 onward. Anybody tried these? The search continues.

What I used is Octane Lighting 5 3/4" Motorcycle 6 volt headlight with H4 bulb 6 volt 35 watt, plugs in perfect, bulb is slightly longer so the fit is tight and you can change the H4 bulb with an LED and get the Motorcycle "W" Clips from ebay that will secure it to the chrome headlight face

Thanks for the reply but, like I said in my post, a 5 3/4" dia. bulb will not fit in my 5" bucket. I thought I was getting an item that would fit twice before only to find out, after they arrived, that they were 5 3/4". So I have two 5 3/4" dia. sealed beams on the shelf now that I can't use. Since the 5" dia. bucket obviously is so hard to find a bulb for, I have been looking for a 5 3/4" bucket. But thanks anyway.
