Ahhh, the fog is clearing a bit. I do remember now that some of the "sealed beams" actually have a metal back part (the reflector, I guess) and that makes sense that you could open it up an install a new bulb. I was thinking that the sealed beam mentioned was an all glass unit and I couldn't see, for the life of me, how a person could break a hole in the back without destroying the entire unit. Duh! Gotcha. Pardon my thick skull! This seems like something even I might be able to do. Thanks

I actually have 3 of these completed in my garage and mounted on bikes but I don't want to dismantle them. because the tabs that hold the LED in place are only good for a couple of bendings and they break off. My new bulbs haven't shown up from the orient yet. I have to agree with the person that said the focal point of the LED's in the old sealed beams is not correct but they are really bright and make it so you can be seen. Night riding at 70 MPH could be sketchy. I will do a series of pics or a short video once the bulbs show up

Doug,
Are these the bulbs you are talking about?

Yes and the ones I get have 3 different mounting brackets with them and I use the smallest one and use the slotted rubber donut from the old bulb. I actually mount the smallest chrome bracket in the hole in the back of the seal beam and then there is a hole in the bracket that lines up with a threaded hole in the LED Lite. The one you have there looks like it will work also if there is any mounting hardware with it. My new lights are somewhere in the Pacific, hopefully they will be here shortly

These can be pricey but they do come up occasionally These are the early ones that had the replaceable bulb They might be easier to install the aftermarket LED.

OK I still do not have my new LED headlights so I took apart the sealed beam I am going to put one in and took some picture of the dismantling and the end product. So bend the 6 tabs and take out the steel washer and pry out the bulb at which point it separates the bulb from its steel base and the bulb stays inside the reflector.. Then shake it until the bulb disintegrates and let the pieces fall out the hole. Then mount the new mounting hardware into the rubber washer that you took out of the old bulb and put the steel washer in place and bend the tabs back to hold it. Slide the LED light into the bracket and install set screw.
