It's a premix bike.  The carb vents inside that compartment.  Any gas/oil mix that comes out of vent tube is supposed to drain out the little filtered vent in the case directly under the carb.  Sometimes vent filter is gunked up. (And you do need a filter there or you'll be sucking dirt from vent hole under carb into engine).  Gas evaporates in cavity and leaves premix oil behind.

Which is a long-winded way of saying finding a little oil in the carb compartment is not unusual.

Thanks Mark! I got it all cleaned up and sorted out the petcock which has been previously taken apart and put back together incorrectly so fuel only would flow when in the off position. Now I just need to find the seal for that little filter bowl. It is completely destroyed! Love this little scoot! Fun to buzz around the neighborhood and everyone wants to stop and talk about it.

Correct me if i'm wrong. Been wrong before lots.
But i'm sure my landscout 80 [& that type] have a vent tube hole plus the gauze pad thingy.
The bowl vent tube pokes straight down out the hole so the sucking vacuum on wide open throttle doesn't get to suck the float from dropping.
Am i over-complicating it. Thought the gauze was more for the lots of blowing & sucking that's going on & fuel vapor etc that collects in there.
Only mentioning [incase i'm right] & you have a small hole under the case with nothing in it.

Later models or other countries might have vented carb outside the "chamber"... USA MG1T and early YG1T did not.

Hey guys,

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement net filter and cup filter for the gas filter? It's part #7 and #8 on the link below. Or a picture of what the cup picture by chance? Thanks

It looks like there are a couple of net filters on ebay.

You need the cup too?  Probably have to search for a used petcock or something.  It's a little bowl that threads on.

It's been over a decade since I went through mine...  I don't know if I had a spare used petcock or not.  I was just out where the bike is stored this morning.  Probably won't go back for at least a couple weeks.

MJ model Yamaha used the same tank/petcock.

Ebay also has a used MJ2 petcock for $15 with free shipping.  Search for:  "1960s yamaha mj2 gas fuel petcock tap spout shut off"

Thanks for the reply Mark. What did you search for to find the net filter on ebay?

Also I do not need the cup I cleaned that out today.  Are there any filters that went in the cup? Mine was just an empty cup.

The "net" kind of goes above the cup...  not in it.  Cup is empty.
