Talking Honda 55cc reminds me, we were Honda & Yamaha dealers back then & the first farm bike that i recall from Honda was the 55. Don't think Honda counted on the brutality of what goes on-on the farm down here & they used to twist the output shaft through its length & the sliding gear wouldn't slide so she was a rebuild jobby. CT90 fixed all that though. Great times & despite that we all loved the little Honda's. Had an electric start pushrod 50 model C102 motor in the kids mini bike. Come to think an old guy borrowed the motor for a while to power a single wheel bike that you sat inside, I couldn't ride it but he could ride it very well.

My Honda CT50 in 1965 here in Australia . Bought new and used as a "farm bike " everyday and ,as well , our "farm hand" ( pictured on the Honda ) used it to ride from his home to the farm and return (approx. 15 miles , one way ) each day. The little Honda had to "earn its keep " .... !!!
Was replaced with a Yamaha 100 Trail in 1969.

thanks guys, it's going to be lots of fun.
markt, i lucked out and the air filter is in great shape. just blew a bit of dust out and good to go. also my cousin says he has that chrome rack that goes over the little one and i'm going to make a pad like yours. all i need to do is find a set of rear pegs. not that i recommend putting two people on it.
some body said it seemed faster and bigger when we were young. it's true. it sure seems small now.
cheers, ken.

Lucky on the filter! Mine was full of holes and the paper was falling apart so I had to do something.

My original MG1T didn't have the chrome accessory rack or the "buddy seat"... this one came with them. I'm always half tempted to take them off but then I'd have to find a place to store the parts. :Ugh

P.S. The reason these guys are all talking about Honda step-throughs is the Yamaha version you've restored is extremely rare. And with the awesome two stroke Yamaha "rotary jet" engine it's very quick compared to the Honda's of the day! In my experience, just as reliable as a Honda.

And in my opinion... WAY cooler than a Honda!! :likey

Hey guys! That MG1-T looks amazing! I am working to get mine running again. After purchasing it, I ran it around the neighborhood for a bit but it stopped running. After inspecting, the tank was full of rust so I popped that off and have finished cleaning it up and its looking pretty good. I feel like I need to pull the carb and rebuild it because it had no filter and I am sure there is rust and junk clogging that up. With that carb in the case, any special tricks to pulling and rebuilding and should there be oil in that case? I know there is a gasket that is destroyed and there was some oil in the back of that case around the clutch. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

There is a fuel filter of sorts as part of the petcock...  little bowl unscrews and could be packed full, mine was.

The rubber cover the cables go through pulls off so you can look down in there.  There is a drain under carb and no fluid to speak of should be in that cavity.  The oval-ish metal cover comes off side of larger clutch cover so carb can be removed.

Thanks for the reply Mark.  I pulled the petcock off and the tank out of the bike and yes, that little bowl on the petcock was chuck full of rust and gunk.  In search of a new o-ring to seal it back off.  With the tank cleaned and ready, I am going to see if she is getting fuel back and ready to run.  I want to pull the carb off and go through that as well.  Need to figure out how the oil got into the clutch cover, but guess it is leaking past the seal.  Hoping to dig through that some today!

Thanks for the insights!
