Devin was almost 1,500 posts (see the very informative paint thread, under general discussions). I think I am going to reconsider my offer to login more to help. I see the same change to insult people trying to help here that I am seeing on others sites. I thought I was trying to help.

My door will remain open.. People’ could call. I get phone calls all the time and try to give yama-guidance.

About my hand injury. I have tried 3 times unsuccessfully and I couldn’t do it again tonight.

I am asking politely to restore order in the forum. Think about the reason you came here in the first place. I wasn’t to argue or be too harsh.

So, I am rescinding my offer to argue amongst yourselves.

Surgery date being 11/09/2023 with 9 weeks of recovery. 3 stitches then 6 additional.

Enduronut and Devin were, I believe, part of the group that set up this forum in the first place and I, for one, will be forever grateful to them.

The reason that they are showing a low post count is that many of their posts will have been archived.

Mako, Asco and anyone else who is struggling with injury(ies), I wish you all a speedy and full recovery.

MarkT, you are doing a wonderful job in maintaining the forum and, again, I am truly grateful for this.

Remember, we were all "Newbies" once, so cut them a bit of slack on their initial posts. Also, our range of experience and knowledge varies greatly, from totally inexperienced first time restorers, to having spent a lifetime in the industry so, again, please bear this in mind when responding.

Wow!
I couldn't have said it better. Perfectly worded response to consider this a closed topic.

What I see is the truth of this forum is that what makes it great is YOU.  Genuine people working together and helping each other as best they can with the tools available.

RTD2's recent post opened my eyes when he mentioned "feeling insulted for trying to help".  I didn't understand at first.  But now I think I understand.

From my perspective this forum is not "crumbling from within" nor is the fact that Enduronut and Devin have decided to focus on the forum Devin started years ago a "crippling blow".   Especially since Devin admitted he stopped posting here about two years ago.  Also, I was on the "old" forum for a few years and there is simply no comparison to what happened there and the challenges this site this site is facing from my perspective.  And I don't remember that site ever hosting pictures like this site was able to do until recently.

What might have been "insulting" to someone else is the post that pointed out a perspective I agree with...  If they had both stopped posting here without saying anything would anyone have really noticed or talked about it?  Is the truth that the forum would have continued on as strong as ever without them if no announcements had been made and no cryptic suggestion of "crumbling from within" had been made with the subsequent posts of "gloom and doom" that followed?    I'll let you decide.  I'm not saying either perspective is right or wrong, good or bad.

I am saying that what you choose to believe and support will affect your experience and can affect the experience of others. What do you choose to believe?  (There's no right or wrong answer)

P.S.  For the record, I do not, nor have I ever "maintained" this site.  Mako has and continues to do that...  I simply used to report spammers and issues when I saw them and was given very limited access to take care of minor issues.  I still report most issues to Mako and he takes care of them.  About the most I do is temporarily delete obvious spam for "viagra" or whatever and then Mako takes care of shutting down the spammer.  This is very rare.  The protections Mako has in place are very good.  And there could be others "behind the scenes" that help out much more than I ever have.

Also, I'm not sure that "post count" is an complete representation of "contributions"...  That said, the truth is counting both live and "archived" posts Mako has more than twice the posts of Enduronut and Devin combined.  Gr8uncleal has more posts here than Enduronut and Devin combined. Don't sell yourself short.  Nearly everyone that has posted here is what makes this place the best!

There’s a saying in the trade papers; “that white punks on dope deserve their misery.”

I salute you being a “no eye contact Yama-Coward unconditionally.”

Thought I should weigh in.

First, I want to extend a Heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone for the years of support (both financial and otherwise). Members are the primary reason the site is as overly successful as it is. A GIGANTIC  Thank You goes to MarkT who has stepped up as our primary moderator and general GoTo guy.

This forum started out in 2014 on a hope and a prayer that we might get a few hundred folks to sign up. It was intended to be mostly a repository - sort of a Wikipedia - of old enduro information - things the old site never would do.thousands of hours and lots of money was spent collecting manuals and data and building a somewhat functional site. The goal was always to be a free site for our members. It has been successful beyond expectations as we now have in excess of 14,000 members from all over the world.

Enduronut was a co-conspirator and contributed most of our VIN tables as well as other data. He’s been a great friend and advisor for various experiments here we’ve tried. He and Devin (his son) will always be held in high regard. The other website he is referencing has been around for many years.

Running a website of this size is more complex than it should be. Growth has been both a reward, but also a headache. It has made the site a bit too big for its britches. We were one of the early sites to actually host our own photos. That creates some technical challenges for a volunteer-run, not-for-profit website. It is a hobby, not a business. I am not a trained web developer, and learned most of what I know building this site. I won’t bore anyone with the conflicts I have personally had with things competing for my time. Not an excuse, just an explanation why things have gotten a bit shelf-worn.

there have been some older threads lost. We had some “interference” in the form of unwelcome visitors. We work extremely hard to keep spammers at a minimum with decent success. We work to protect user data.

i have plans for the site and hope to be able to implement soon. Your ongoing patronage is appreciated and makes it all worthwhile.

Please don’t bash in Enduronut or Devin. Good people. DVM the same. Been around a long while. I’ve ridden with him on the old bikes and he could run circles around many of us. ASCO is a huge supporter behind the scenes, you just have to understand his humor.

And a big thanks to MarkT ?

thank you for listening.

Makotosun
