installing new seat cover was created by AirborneSilva
Hi guys, I bought a new seat kit (pan, foam and cover), from KDI so before I screw it up thought I'd ask. The tabs you can see circled in the picture below, do those get bent down?

Hope all is well on your side of the pond, all's good here...

Ok now I'm confused (not a big surprise), it looks like you bent the tabs towards the outside of the seat pan and not down towards the middle of the seat pan like I was thinking and now probably have everyone confused

. The seat cover did come with the piping pre-installed, the piping I thought you were talking about is the one that goes around the seat pan edge so as not to cut into the new seat cover, either way I'm covered.

Yes Tony, tabs as per my photos.
There might also originally have been a strip of bead/protective cover that sits over the seat pan edge. However, there's every chance that I'm confusing that with my RD seats - let others (or you, if you still have it) confirm.
All good over here, thanks, and I've even got one or two of the projects started up! Your new toy still putting a smile on your face?!

Good morning Alan, I think I figured it out and got it mostly done last night. Yes I did get that bead protector, so far putting that on was the easiest part of this, lots of pulling and heating with the heat gun.
Yep, still enjoying the new toy and lots of smiles under the helmet. I've only been able to take short 3-4 hour rides but some day I hope to be able to use it for it's intended purpose.

Ok, so how do you get these edges to stay down? Do you glue them? I've tried heating the area with a heat gun then with using heavy duty paper clips (the black spring type - if that makes sense), and it stays fairly well until I try it with another area then the previous area curls back up.

No one?! Well I decided to just put it on the bike as is and see what happens over time, may end up gluing them we'll see... I did take the bike out to start it up and take pictures but when I put gas in it the petcock was pouring gas out (and not where it's supposed to), so I ordered another one that hopefully will work. I did also take some pictures but because of our wonderful HIGH humidity here the pictures came out cloudy since I just brought the camera from inside the AC'd house and started taking pictures the lens fogged up. Will take some when new petcock gets here next week...

Sorry Tony, my upholsterer friend did mine, so I didn't see the process. However, I recall something about the cord on the inside being pulled tight around the seat base as a first fixing, and then those clips being the second - ie the clips go over the cord within the seat cover. Does your cover definitely have the cord fitted within it?
Bulldog clips?

Hey Alan, yes it for sure does have the cord and seems to be holding well where it has the clips it's just in those few areas where it just wont lay flat.
