Why?? was created by Bp299

Bought this CT1 a couple years ago from my son's girlfriend and to this day, I can't figure why someone would have gone thru the trouble of painting everything red!
I mean everything- the swingarm, kickstand, brake pedal, footpeg bracket, headlight brackets, fork tubes, and the dam battery and air boxes. Then the tank and fenders black and red piping on the seat cover? Almost like they pulled the motor and then just sprayed everything. Maybe it was used on a show? Anyways enjoy the pix and lmk if you've ever seen one like this.

The kid never had a father who beat the tar out of him, they tried to reason with the boy instead.

I've gone thru two bikes with similar re-paint issues. One was painted camouflage colors and the other was painted in the purple and pink colors that yamaha used for a spell.  So I feel your pain.

Have to give some credit for the detail, red piping on the seat, wow!
But yeah, why is anybody’s guess… One of a kind, I suppose…

I had a WR400 that the prior owner painted a dark plum color on the frame. What was worse than that was that he had painted the wheels (spokes, hubs and all) black. He said that he wanted to make it into a "Mad Max" motorcycle. It took forever to undo all of the "customization".

It was a thing to do back in the day, when bikes of that era had little value and there was no internet to source replacement parts.

I'll hold my hand up to painting a RD250D frame red (silver tinware) and a RD400C frame yellow (marine blue tinware). UK bikes. Both bikes looked very fetching, but I'd never do that now.

I've certainly seen worse. I kind of like it. I think it was around 1980 where "works bikes" and some Japanese factory production paint schemes got away from what had become a traditional black frame and maybe someone liked that look... or maybe they were a staunch "Batman" fan? (A friend of mine built a "Bat Bike" with a red and black paint scheme when we were kids... wasn't too different from this one.... but not as well done... we were kids.)

Whoever did it obviously took care to develop a scheme they liked with attention to detail. Red tank badges would be a nice touch but possibly when this was done badges were hard to find... many tanks had the badge recesses filled in with body filler... not because someone liked the smooth tank but because you couldn't find badges.
