Yes sir got it all sorted out. The plate thing is an easy fubar if you're not thinking and the spring or any hangups are pretty obvious so I think I got it down. Gonna be at the shop shortly to see how it behaves on the top clip, only one I haven't tried after fixing it. That is a stock Mikuni with the genius main jet access, vm24, my DT has a vm22 if I've done my research correctly.

Well, tried that top clip and it seems to like it best actually. Not a whole lot of difference in 1 or 2 but bogged a bit less on the top clip. Tried the no arrestor and got annoyed quickly plus it likes it on anyway. It's running about as good as it'll get without an upjet so I'll be ordering jets. I'm really being picky about that top end MINIMAL bog anyways cuz that's where I should be shifting anyways. Easy main jet to get to so we'll see but I think my AT is about as good as she gets for now. Guess I'm running out of things to do so I'm just overfkn it a bit haha. Time for stuff like brake shoes, maybe tires...stuff like that.
I must say I'm over the moon for vintage Yamahas and this community of riders is about as good as it gets. Amazing to have such a helpful resource and community online. Appreciate ya'll!

let me know how the re-jetting goes. I have a '73 CT3 that's having the same issue. I've moved the needle clip to the top setting but still is falling flat over 5000 rpm.

I sure will I just ordered jets today for my DT and AT. I found that on both the clip setting was just a tiny difference for each change, kinda like doing 1 thing to solve another so I'll keep you posted. Also check for clogs in your muffler/arrestor, my DT was gunked.

The main jet is what feeds the engine over the higher throttle settings, probably around 5K. Try a different main instead of moving the clip any more.

If it's bogging at 5k an above would you go smaller main jet or larger?

What kind of air filter are you running? I ordered the next 2 larger size main jets as I'm running a pod filter so I need more fuel at open throttle because I have more air flow.

I have the standard airbag with a foam filter. It feels to my like I may be getting too much gas, I do have some slight backfire on decelerations. Maybe I'll just order 2 bigger and 2 smaller to be safe. Where did you order from?

I didn't specify because you said when you changed the clip setting that there was a bit of a difference, but you didn't say better or worse or whether you went lower clip (more gas, richer mixture) or higher clip (less gas, leaner mixture). If it ran better when you went up one with the clip (dropping the needle for less gas), then go down one size on the main and see what happens. Or vice versa.
Also, are you looking at the plug? What color/condition is it?

Mothersbaugh is correct, it’s hard to tell between a lean bog or a rich bog and the spark plug color will help tell you what the engine is getting for an air/fuel mixture .
Backfire is usually an indication of lean.
