Help needed CT3 crank was created by Pete-RT1
The crank on my recently acquired CT3 is ripe.
I haven't split the cases yet, but having removed the crank seal on the flywheel side you can see it's pretty corroded, so rather than faff about I decided to order a crankshaft assembly from Rocky Mountain (if you haven't seen them, watch the $500 Five Miles of Hell and Extreme Enduro).
I sent and email asking whether crank assembly 314-11400-02-00 included rod etc., then having read the response time would be 3 days I went onto the live chat with their technical department they confirmed the crank assembly 314-11400-02-00 is left and right crank, con-rod etc. assembled, perfect!
A few days later, after having ordered the part I get an email saying it doesn't include the con-rod.
I emailed them back explaining that technical had said it does and asked them to re-check.
Kylee in customer services came back to me saying she had looked into it and it does not include the con-rod.
I'm questioning this because I would like it to be an assembly with the con rod and also, because the description "crankshaft assembly" implies it's an assembly.
If I look up crankshaft assembly for a 1996 YZ250 you will see the assembly clearly defined and also the cost of the assembly is still way below the sum of the cost of the individual parts.
Does anyone know with 100% certainty either way?

Yes been waiting to see who said what. so keep bumping it. But i'd be more than surprised if anyone had a complete new crank. I'd just get a new rod kit & have yours rebuilt if its as bad as you say. I went looking on their site & couldn't find a complete crank ready to go. You would though, expect it to be complete if advertised as a crank assembly--not a conrod assembly.

I was very surprised it was listed too.
Have a look at the 1996 XT350 or YZ250, both listed as assemblies and are available.
What also makes me think it is the complete assembly is a lot of other crank assemblies are part number ***-11400-02-00.
Hey ho, will drop them another email to ask if they can inspect it prior to shipping to me in the UK

I don't know how it could be an "assembly" without the rod. Either way, it's well worth getting.
I'd be surprised if they have it though. Not RMATV's fault. Yamaha sometimes has parts listed as available in the parts network and you find out a few days later that it's NLA.

Good evening, just noticed your post for a shop that can rebuild the crank for your CT3. I'm in Pensacola and have a small bike restoration shop. I was a service manager for a Yamaha dealer back in the late 70s and early 80s and can do this work for you. If you want to send me the old crank and new parts, I'll do the rebuild and true it for $75. Will do a quick turn around, but you'll need to cover return shipping. In the process of doing an AT2 that came along now and a couple of TYs that I acquired. Hope your rebuild turns out good as it really feels great getting an old bike back to life. Good evening, Steve Owens. Email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if I can help.

Have a top end off one of a TY175's as above on my AT1, think i needed to make a base plate of 5 or 6mm due to differences, must have a look, was about 20 years ago. Sure turns on & better than a TY with its trials exhaust. My original AT pipe is gutted like a chamber as it rattled to bits 40 plus years ago. Anyway, some useless information lol.
