1971 CT1 Gorman Special "Brandy" was created by asco

Since July of last year not a lot has been said about; Brandy.

Recently, I am painting the fenders, doing the color change from Red back to Silver. DE1615 with clear.

I still have not made the decision on the fuel tank but I am leaning towards stock gold color. I will completely strip the tank down to bare metal. That will probably happen in the next two weeks.

One of my questions is: I have obtained a better carburetor than the 24mm 248 A2. The 248 M2 26mm may or may not be installed, after removing the head on the bike and doing an inspection. I have a brand new top end that is ported, however it does not make sense to do all that work unless it's absolutely necessary. It is a rider and my objective is to either go with the sleeper pipe or a down pipe. I have an opportunity to get a 21" front wheel and I have decided not to do that either. It will change the handling of the bike and I don't think it's necessary. If it was a track bike for motocross then yes, absolutely the 21" would be beneficial. Brandy is basically the back-up bike to Monica. If anybody has had success upgrading carburetors the only basic jetting that I know would be in the repair manual.

I would just stick the new carb on it and see what happens!

I have a 21 inch for my CT1 (just like yours of course) and I took it off and went back to the 18 inch which I prefer.

I took a few pictures and a video after spending who knows how long - trying to get the chain case on. It seems that it takes two people to press forward to get the front holes to lineup, partially. I think it's off another year bike. (1969).

Started right up. Thank you Capt. Dave first or second kick. A little trouble finding neutral but it's there. All in all not bad. A lightweight great fun bike.

It was pretty cool to get a phone call from Captain Dave the other evening. The advice that I got from him regarding the 248 M2 carburetor jetting was 200 main jet - 30 pilot jet. The carburetor was assembled today with the correct jets. I adjusted the float height up just a little bit, using my pre-determined adjustment jig. The needle stayed the same at the second from the top. That is not going to be moved at this time. Tomorrow, I will do the installation and fire the bike up. Afterwords, I will drain the fuel tank and start stripping it. I have narrowed it down to Duplicolor Paint Shop Performance Red with a Silver Base Coat, with the activated clear. I'm hoping to do it in cans. I just can't make that big of a mess without a paint booth and my compressor wakes the dead.

Things are subject to change without additional notification.

I had a major problem here trying to get off one of the side cases that had rust on the shifter shaft. I finally got it off and used Emery cloth then lubricated and put it back together. It was for a clutch adjustment internally that was also frozen. The countershaft sprocket nut also has rust. The bike was previously in water. That's all there is to it.

A little bit more of an explanation of what occurred earlier today. The first cover came off the ignition side obviously extremely easy. Took out the remaining screws and it just wouldn't move. Nothing would move. I backed off the clutch adjustment 10 mm nut, it was completely frozen. Got out the WD-40 started spraying everything and finally after about 30 minutes the clutch actuator screw was moving again. I was able to get a kickstart shaft wedged in against the counter shaft sprocket I am tapped on the shifter shaft, and adjacent areas for quite some time before it came loose. I was saying this is not my day. But I was wrong.

Well, it turned out to be a tremendous day. Quite happy with the performance increase of the new carburetor. I'm going to call it "torque." Since, I was not able to open it up. I cracked the throttle in first and second gear, the bike is launching the front wheel off the ground. Never touched the air screw. Turned on the petcock. Not much happened. Took one of the hoses off and it fueled the carburetor. A tiny bit of vibration on the rear fender that I had not noticed before. Slowed the idle down and shut the petcock off while it was running.

I want to add a little sidenote if you look above on the previous posts I talked about removing the head. When Captain Dave tells me that I don't need to take the head off. The respect that I have for that man, I can't even begin to describe. I will paint the two left side covers while I am doing the fuel tank. When the fuel tank is ready to be color sanded and buffed and I will remove the clutch side cover and paint that silver as well. The bike is coming together very nicely and I am extremely happy and lucky that Brandy is in the stable.

Tough day in the paint booth. Did not like it until a few minutes ago after a Silver sand and re-coat.
