Unplug your ignition switch and see if you have spark

Neither one is better then the other on the stock mag sytems, however Yamaha did replace the advance set up with the non advance set up on later model 360's. 

As far as changing over to electronic ignition with a kit, sorry can't help you there as i prefer the original simple design of the stock points set up. Never changed one out. I am sure there are some guys here that can help you with the switch over and cost of it. 

There are service manuals for your bike here in the TECH LIBRARY that can help you test what you have. Easy to do with some minor test equipment.
