I was thinking (hoping?) the master sleeper pipe team of Meis and DVM might be able to install a cone to internally shorten the tuned length to better match the porting and make the pipe work at higher RPM to match the cylinder...

I think with the way the pipe starts on the left side of the bike and stinger/ muffler on the right makes it difficult to get a cone in there. It doesn't angle toward the muffler side per sey but just jogs the rear cone to that side. It also has a few dents to go around 2 frame tubes, and carb cable. Also further up the belly has a dent for spark plug boot clearance. Seems this jogging and clearance in between these dents would make it hard to stuff a cone in there, dunno. I believe I saw pictures here (on the forum)that showed some baffling material in the belly behind perforated steel, and a plate as a crude reflector in the convergent cone area. It has a hole to let gas pass through. My memory may have failed but you might be able to pull that up with the search feature.

Hello Meis. What’s a sleeper pipe? I’ve just joined the group. I bought a couple of fixer uppers about 18 months ago (CT175 1974, DT250 1982, DT400E 1978) and I’m looking at starting on the 1978 DT400E. I saw on some earlier posts these sleeper pipes were available up to around 1976. My downpipe/expansion chamber was missing along with a load of other parts. I bought what I thought was a half decent downpipe but it is rotten and I think it’s off a 250, not a 400. Do you have some available for my 1978 DT400E and my 1981 DT250? Sorry if I’ve misread what’s available and what you supply. I’ve read so many conflicting reports on parts and what is/isn’t right. It’s driving me nuts in all fairness. I live in the UK but will buy from anywhere. These bikes were cheap and need basically everything. I’m starting with one and hoping to gather information along the way. Any advice or parts you can supply would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Mark

Hello, what Mr Meis does Is to cut apart the original exhaust and install expansion chamber cones in them. He and her friend have done all the R&D to find out which cones works and which doesn’t, they really work well. Plus keep the original look of the bike. After completed you cannot tell from the outside it was cut apart, all of the cutting done is hidden.
Thanks Mark

The Sleeper pipe mod allows your stock pipe to perform like a proper Expansion chamber, it even out performs some of the aftermarket pipes like Bassani, Torque Engineering and Hooker to name a few. if you want a stock looking bike yet it performs like it has been modified a Sleeper pipe is a great way to go.

Hi Barter73......
I reviewed your list of bikes and we don't build sleeper pipes for any of your bikes.
Not sure about about your UK 1974 CT175 ? Not sure what that is ?
