Oil glass removal was created by Chajoma

I've searched the forums but am not sure I got the right answer. It seems that to remove a glass you have to destroy it. Is that right? I want to remove it so I can get the tank sprayed and then put it back. Will I have to break it and buy a new one?

It's easy to bend or dent the oil tank. I remove the old one by drilling a hole through the center of the sight window. Insert a large sheet metal screw through it all the way into the back of it. Gently wiggle it out. Buy a newly manufactured one, not a NOS one. NOS can be stiff. A recently manufactured one will be more supple. Put a little oil on it. Take a deep breath and push it in and work it around gently. I'm 5 out of 7 using this method.

I am interested in this as well, how can one tell they are buying a new manufactured one? Is there a supplier that makes these aftermarket?
Is this what you are referring to?

Seeing a number of those more recent style packaged items on ebay would lead to me to ask if they were still actually available from Yamaha themselves.

Thanks everyone. I'll order a new one before I remove the old one to get a good look at it first :)

Not sure what bike you're working on but Yamaha definitely still has them available brand new for some models. Way cheaper than ebay.

Other models may not be available from Yamaha but places like HVC (already mentioned) and perhaps Yambits in the UK have nice new ones.

It's an AT3 so that is the correct part :)

Thanks. I'll take a look...

Interesting. Nothing on Partzilla for the DT250B!! What's up with that? I did a quick ebay search and nothing there either...
