I have recently rebuilt the oil pump on a RT2, using the HVC pump reseal kit and HVC longer pump pins.  I installed the pump and it is pumping the correct amount of oil.  The plastic wheel turns with the engine running and the pump is working.  However, with the engine off, the plastic wheel cannot be rotated manually.  It only moves a small amount before binding.  Has anyone had this problem using the longer HVC pump pins?  Any input on why the pump will not turn manually is appreciated?

Wheel only turns in one direction.  

I'm not familiar with the "longer pins".  Yamaha used their design for many decades and it's worked great.  What are the pins supposed to solve?

The answer can be found on the HVC page for the replacement pins they sell.  Sounds like you need to file the pins down.

If I'm thinking right [often in doubt] I'd be tempted to leave it alone now it's on & working. Worry about it next time. You can bleed it out the screw & run it pulling the pulley to full stroke so nothing to worry about. Some later pumps don't have a priming wheel so just pretend it's one of those. Great that MarkT is "on to it" & I live & learn every day.
