Just a thought & not sure how legal you need it for the road but anything from this side of the world would or should be left hand dip where the US have right hand dip. I recall when we sold Harley's & we had to change the headlight unit. Was very noticeable if you had do dip it for oncoming traffic at night & couldn't see the line on the side of the road. I'm in NZ by the way & all our yamahas came under Oceania if i remember right. I did google oceania yamaha parts but go nowhere.

Those OEM replaceable bulb reflectors seem to be rare. You can get an H4 reflector... dozens of options from Hella and others... shop around... they fit Jeeps too. Then you need a 6 volt 35 watt H4 Bulb to go into it. And the clips to hold it into the rim.
Or this one has everything but the clips. Clips can be bought from Yamaha, ebay, or MikesXS.com
Topic has been discussed on here several times so a search might reveal other options.
Note that unless you go for a "true" OEM replacement bulb/reflector assembly (probably more than $100 if you can find one), you'll be using clips to mount the bulb and not the original brackets.
Someone once cut out a big hole in the stock reflector and glued it to the back of an H4 reflector so they could use the original mounting method. Forum is a wealth of info so always worthwhile to do a search.

Good Evening from the UK Joseph!
First up, I'm guessing from your avatar picture that it's a 1972 or 1973 DT2 that you have there.
I had the same problem as you regarding a blown sealed beam headlight on my own RT2.
What I didn't want to happen was to buy another sealed beam unit and have that blow as well and so I therefore set about trying to find a headlight with the same fittings, but with a replaceable bulb. After some trial and error, I think I have succeeded. However, as I have not fitted all of the components together yet, I can't be absolutely certain that what I have will be legal here in the UK.
As part of my search, I looked for any Koito light units (the manufacturer of the headlight), as well as under the ref YHA107 (hopefully this is what is stamped on the underside of your headlight shell/bucket). Also, another forum member has helpfully posted that the part number for the same headlight unit, but with a replaceable bulb, is 214-84120-61-00. Good luck with finding one of those though!
I'm not sure what your budget is, but a quick search of ebay shows this headlight being advertised. It doesn't specifically say that it is for a DT2 or DT3, but it is identical to that on my RT2 (which, I'm pretty sure, is the same as the DT2/DT3) and, just as importantly, it is described as working. Obviously this should be confirmed with the vendor. You can always sell on the parts that you don't need and thereby reduce your costs.
One question for the more knowledgeable forum members - is the reflector on a headlight unit stamped with, say 6v 35w/35w the same as that on one stamped 12v 35w/35w (both units being of the replaceable bulb type)?

That makes perfect sense thank you! So what would be a good setup if I wanted run a led? I want something where I can just replace if it goes out like you were saying earlier.

So what you’re saying is it’s just like a stock headlight but you can replace the bulb whenever you want but you have to buy the brackets to hold the bulb in?

No brackets needed... look at the Pobit sealed beam option on ebay. It comes with wire clips to hold the light into the rim like the later models. Clips are #10 in diagram.
I like the MikesXS clips... looks like they are out of stock... you get 5 and I usually destroy one or two which leaves me the three left I need to hold the light in place.

Joseph
Over the years Yamaha appear to have switched between sealed beam units and ones where the bulb could be replaced. An awful lot of the early models were fitted with lights manufactured by Koito.
What I did was to scour ebay on a regular basis looking at all old Koito units and also Yamaha headlight buckets with YHA107 stamped on them. I ignored which model the vendor stated that they were off because a) many owners chopped and changed parts and therefore the bike that it eventually came off might not have been the bike that it was originally fitted to and b) many parts were interchangeable between models. I had to pay very close attention to the location of all of the mounting holes and also the long adjusting screw. I did make a couple of errors along the way though!
As I understand it, the spring mounting clips (that hold the glass inside the chrome headlight rim) on the aftermarket lights replace the small screws on the original headlight that did the same job.
I can't help with led lights I'm afraid, as that's well beyond my skillset!
All the best and good luck with your search.

No, the pobit lamp is sealed beam, just like your original.

Not sure what "this one" is... the one in post #12 has a replaceable H4 6v 35 watt halogen bulb...
There are many replaceable bulb H4 reflectors like it to choose from. Most have no bulb (sold seperately) or a 12v 55 watt bulbs so you also need to get a 6 volt 35 watt bulb.
Yamaha headlight runs on AC power. LED's need DC power. I have not seen an LED that will work unless you change the system to DC power.
