A few months ago, I followed advice like Mark is giving and bought an inexpensive crankcase splitter from Rocky Mountain ATV for $59 and it worked great. I wish I kept better records but the splitter I bought was a recommendation from someone on this site so the credit goes to the site and contributor.

I recently finished my 1 1/2 restoration on my 360 and I ended up with a foot that looks like yours. Unfortunately I fractured my ankle and heel. So my bike is now tucked in the corner covered up til I am able to get back to being completely healed.

Damn, sorry to hear about your misfortune and I thought my 400 was bad. Beautiful bike though!

I didn't see a post from the OP about how this story turned out so just to keep the dream alive I'll add my story. I bought my 1973 RT3 as a basket case a few years ago and over a year ago final got it all back together but it would foul a plug in about 1 mile, maybe 2. it was sucking tranny oil into the engine and therefore getting a 2x or 3x dose of oil. So I have spent the better part of a year putting new seals in it. But here's what you get to enjoy if you persevere. Fast forward to 50 sec if want to skip my dreary introduction. Note I put on my riding boots to do this. And about compression release, you will note the change in sound when I cut the release after it fires up. And it's not blowing any blue smoke so I better double check operation of the auto lube.

Be careful about standing on the footpeg to start it. That puts a lot of strain on the weld for the tab that holds the kickstand. I've seen a couple of them break. It would be better to place a stand or block of wood next to the bike.

I use this for starting my RT3. Harley Davidson compression release # 32076-04 with Alloy Art adapter # CRA-1. Goes in the spare spark plug hole. Needs to be manually actuated before each kick. Works very well, a little better than the original in the front of the cylinder.

But you still need to be careful. The 360 likes to let you know who's boss.

The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.
