The big one is pretty good but throw the gaskets they give you in the trash & either buy good weather sealing strips (hardware store) or use silicon on all the edges you were going to use the gasket on.

Drill a hole in it and stick the shop vac hose in there while blasting

I have the HF media blaster (40# floor model) and their largest one "Industrial Blast Cabinet". Also a pressurized blaster for outside use.

I assume you are asking about the 40# floor model (around 200 bux) My random thoughts...

The above posters are correct. Use silicone on assembly of the 40# floor model. For what it costs, you cannot beat it. It does use consumables such as blasting tips, mylar window protectors etc. The light sucks. I replaced it with 2 florescent lights.

You can use a shop vac ( it has a port for one) but the vac will not last. Abrasive makes its way past the filter & eventually destroys the motor. Happened to me. Just be aware of this fact. You must use some sort of filtration to pull air out of the cabinet. You are forcing air in and that air will come out with abrasive in it. If you do not filter, you will find abrasive all over everything around the cabinet. Plus if you don't, you cant see a damn thing.

Get your consumables from TP tools. Tell 'em Stan sent ya. I also get my media from them. Some sort of mix, can't remember what it is right now. If you need to know, let me know.

Speaking of filtration. You will also need to filter the water out of your air source (compressor) This unit needs dry air.

If you have specific questions, ask away....

Reminds me of a funny story...I think I may have encountered one of those leaky harbor freight blasters. It was a table top I am guessing. Got it off a move I was doing for this gentleman. I was very happy to have it, but I had no air compressor. So that thing got moved around my garage for about 2 years with wifes furniture, friends furniture coming in and out. Father in laws stuff. You get the picture. I then had it on the top of my motorcycle parts storage rack. Well, one day I had to move it again, and it was loaded with about 2 inches of aluminum oxide. Started to slide it down and from out of no-where I got a face full of that dirty gritty stuff. On top of that a bunch fell in the back side of this hugh Sony Trinitron T.V. Those you guys might remember are fairly heavy. Sp-ent about 2 hours trying to get that grit out and still ended up having to throw the T.V away. I just grabbed the sand blaster and put it out on the curb. No way was I going to keep it after that. About 1 minute elapsed a guy stopped with his pick up and looked horrified that I was leaving it for the metal guys. I just said IT's Yours.

If you have a pressure washer you might have a look at the kit to convert it to a wet blaster general less than 60 bucks and no more dust.

Thanks for all the reply's, I would love to have a media blaster, but the problem is the space. I can leave it outside and covered is really my only option. There's a couple of youtube videos how to modify, mostly for sealing and lighting. One guy converted and sandblast cabinet to a soda cabinet.
Thanks Mark

We have had one at work for about 5-6 years. ditto all of the above info. Speaking of consumables, don't forget to add a new gun to the list. What you spend in sand and all of the upgrades and the consumables in 5 years will be more than you paid for the machine. Upgrade first to a better machine. One of my previous jobs we had a Tip Mfg. cabinet. very nice easy to get parts. Every part was available. Start with something better. Good luck with your next project. Keep the pics coming.
