There is a story about that... I think the legend says it was during the initial development of the short-lived Harley Davidson MX250 where either a rider or a designer said something like "everyone always complains about the rear shocks, not the forks" and then proceeded to install forks on the rear.
I'll see if I can find it.

I think it was "Super Hunky" aka "Mr. Know-it-all" aka Rick Sieman that related the story of the using forks on the rear of the Harley MX250.
Rick was the editor and writer for several magazines back in the early to mid-70's when they "told it like it is". I think he either got fired or almost got fired from Dirt Bike (I think it was Dirt Bike) when he wrote that Honda's new 175 was a complete turd... Honda threatened to pull all their advertising. After that, most magazines never said anything very bad about a product. Didn't stop Rick. He continued his irreverent writing style for several years at Modern Cycle. I think a lot of us remember his humor and satire as well. I know I do.
I couldn't find the fork reference online... it might be in his book "monkey butt". If I find it I will post it.
